Wtf is this sensor??

I got all my stuff from autozone.
Dizzy - 30-2691
Cap Adapter - F960
Rotor - F953
Cap - F952
Dura Box - F102
and i am going to use the stock coil

All the advance auto part numbers on the duraspark page dont work anymore.

Got all my stuff in my truck today. Was going to use the low pressure pump that wascin my gas tank and bypass the high pressure one but fouhd out that it hasnt been working for awhile, so that's why my TBI system wasn't working so well and why I was having problems so I went out and bought the parts need to convert it back to a manual fuel pump setup. Another thing we found out was the timing is off so it wouldn't start, but I have spark, timing light confermed that. So I'm going to have to find TDS again, dad messed it up on accident, and pull the dizzy and reset it. But due to a few parts that had to be ordered she won't be driving for the next few days plus after I do get her going, its SAS time.

Plus still have to clean to soot off the engine still from my truck fire awhile back. So much to do, so little time to do stuff.

I am going to try and get mine done this Saturday (its my bday on Saturday, wonder if i can get someone to do it for me :icon_rofl:)

Hopefully i dont **** something up

TDC is easy put your finger in #1 plug hole and turn it over click it till you feel compression line the pointer up to the wide groove on the damper I believe it says TC then make the rotor point to about 11 oclock do it before you pull the dizzy then the oil pump will line up. If the dizzy dont drop down all the way click the ignition til you can push it all the way down the put it on TDC again and see where the rotor points. You can judge by how far the rotor turns when your pulling it out to where it will turn to as you push it down. I got lucky once and got it the first time. I spent the first day doing the ignition and pulling the harness and vacuum. Get the timing good then mess with the carb and plug all the vacuum lines except the advance gets plugged into the tree by the dizzy

My dad says he felt the pressure of the piston going up and I have mine marked for timing already but I think he may have been feeling the exhaust stroke as it was staring to go up then I turned the crank to the mark and he put a screw driver in the cylinder conferming it was at the top but wrong stroke as we have found out.

Have to say the wiring is quite simple, though after having 3 different harnesses, it didnt make it easiycto sort what I needed butcgood thing the red/white wires plug was still there but wasn't being used for the last 11 years.

Only thing with the carb. is it still has the anti-tamper things on the idle screws, forgot to take them off before I put the carb. on but I'll see how she runs first before doing that.

Now to go to bed earliy so I can get an earliy start on her tomorrow.

You can always just rotate the plug wires 180 degrees but you will have to remember that when putting new wires on. best to have the #1 on the cap for a referance. As long as the carb is clean inside the idle air shoud be good if not pretty much impossible to take them off on the engine not a big deal pulling the carb. I have my base timing at 12 btdc but am gonna try timing by total advance set it at 37 dbtdc at 3500 rpm and see how it runs there.

Thats probably what I will end up doing with the wires. My cap came with a #1 on it so that will help out alot. Nobody else is going to be under the hood of my truck, so no need for it be set-up in such a way that others need to know.

My carb. came off an 83 T-bird with a 3.8, so Im wondering what size jets she has in her........... Didnt changed them because I wanted to see how it runs with what it has first, got them out when I was cleaning the carb. so if I have to chage them, no problem there.

Got her running........................................................for as along as dumping a bit of fuel down the carb. to fire her up will last until tomorrow when the rest of my parts will arrive.

Had to move all the plug wires on the dizzy cap counter-clockwise one tower and she fired right up. I guess when I put the dizzy in, I jumped a tooth.

Thatll work anothe r way of finding #1 cyl is to put the light on each plug wire until you see the mark then use that wire off the cap for #1. 3.8l carb huh I`m guessing #52 jets in the carb yea you can use the jets out of the feedback carb #50s if you still have it.

well all my stuff will be here friday, saturday ill be riding

Awsome :headbang:

I'm goong to be getting a narrow band guage to help with fine tuning (plus to have another guage in the truck:D) I'll be starting another build thread on all this soon, will include my Duraspark and my upcoming SAS and other stuff I do to my truck.

Whats a band gauge?

narrow band is one of the cheap air fuel ratio guages, not really much help imo. wideband is the expensive ones(at least 150 bux), but what serious tuners use. they also use em on dyno tuning

man it sucks ordering parts and having to wait for them to come in:dunno:

i recently have gotten a surging idle and it stalls out sometimes at stoplights, like its got a serious cam or something. hope the duraspark fixes it

More bad news....... my parts weren't shipped, the shippment order was lost so now they won't arrive until Saturday. Good news is, got my new fog lights mounted to my brush guard........build thread comming very soon.
