Bummer.

On the other hand your Duraspark box looks loose... :D

Have you checked for slop in the cam? I know it is gear driven but they do have nylon involved. I would also check compression too.

You say you have fire, the vapor mist coming out of the carb says you have fuel, and it sounds like you have some compression. One or more of those two isn't happening at the right time. There is a bunch of duraspark diag on that link I posted you can try to rule out that.

Yeah it is getting old

That duraspark box is a spare i have, i was testing to see if the current one is fried, but it did the same thing.

I am going to do a compression test but i lost a little adapter, i am looking for it but just might end up borrowing someones.

How would i test for slop in the camshaft, i didn't know the timing gears were made of nylon, i thought they were made of metal.

Pop the cap off the dizzy, put a wrench on the crank and watch for slop between the crank moving and the rotor turning. There will be some, but there can be too much.

The timing gears are metal, but they are coated in nylon to make them quiet.

Well i did a compression test today (found the adapter), i could only do it with a cold engine and i could not get the hose into the cylinder 3 spark plug whole to save my life, i tried for 20 minutes.

1 - 100 psi

2 - 110 psi

3 -N/A

4 - 105 psi

5 - 105 psi

6 - 105 psi

I am going to test for spark again tomorrow.

I always found it easier to attack #3 through the fender well back when I had the 2.8.

If you have the AC box and the AC doesn't work I can only imagine what ditching the AC heater box for a non-AC box would do for room with the 2.8. It is by far and away easier to work on my 302 with the non AC box than it was with the 2.8 and AC box. I wish I had done it years ago rather than during the engine swap.

Well it looks like i might be picking up an 87 B2 this weekend for something to drive, because with school i do not have time to work on this car. It might be parked and get a 302 or 4L in the spring.
