Wohlf 16's 99 Ranger build

That doesn't sound right. They should just pop right out with a little prying. Double check everything.

yes it does. ever hear of carrier bearing preload? When I install a carrier after rebuilding a diff, usually have to pound it in with a rubber malletS. IF you can just pull out a carrier simply, the bearings were pooched. I usually get someone to hold onto the pinion flange, and put a big ass wrench on one of the ring ear bolts, and as you pull down on wrench, it will turn the carrier out. That or MAKE a case spreader....bolt some angle iron (2 pcs parallel) to the case (diff cover holes) and put some threaded rod through them (top and bottom) and spin the nuts to spread the case....it doesnt take much, even a thousandth or two is enough often to allow the case to come out.

I used a wadded up rag and spun it thru the gears and it pushed my last carrier out easy....worth a shot.

When I say some prying I mean with a 3' prybar

Sorry dont get on here much during the weekends. I got it out. Went with the rag method. Stuck a rag in there and cranked the driveshaft around with a huge screw driver. Slowly walked out then I had to still hook the ratch strap up to it.
Installed the locker and started putting it back in. Another question on getting it back in now. Ive got it in far enough that I can get the axle shafts back in but I can not get the bearing caps to seat so I can run the bolts in. Is there a trick to this? And yes I marked them and am putting them back from the sides they came off of. My neighbor said if I needed some help he would come down but I hate buggin him. I'd rather bug you guys!
Oh and Josh I know your werent bein a dick. I was layin in the gravel in my driveway covered in gear lube and gettin pissed so I see where overlookin stuff like that can easily be done.

Glad you understood what i meant. I know what its like being all covered in shit and pissed off, then a buddy comes by and is like, "Shouldn't you unbolt that first?" lol

I'm gonna have to agree with Nathan. You should be able to knock it in with a rubber mallet far enough to get the caps on

Thanks guys for all the advice. I tried the rubber mallet and it kept bouncin off to much and not given me enough wackin power. (somebody better quote that!) So I pretty much beat the shit out of the butt on my hammer and got it in. So heres the pics from my struggles.

Nice build. Glad to see a 99 surviving. Mine was traded in by previous owner because radiator core support is rotted. Till I fix my front end kinda bounces independently from my suspension lol.
My wife learned to give me time to work on my truck. It was either that or I c clamp her mouth shut!!! Jus kiddin... Lol

My core support is pretty much rotted out too. Its mostly at the bottom. Figure I might do somethin about it when it is prolly to late. Oh and Ive been workin on my truck a lot more cause my wifes in her last quarter of nursing and she is always studying. Usually its just a weekend thing for me cause she works saturdays and sundays.

Tomorrows the mud bog. Gonna try it out. If it goes well Im gonna put pics up and hopefully a video. Wish me luck!

good luck!!

Did you get the track rod done? Kage just put his in and he said it was like night and day difference

Still havent finished the track bar but my mount helped out saturday. I bottomed out and it came up and broke my shock mount off. Never liked how it was on there anyway.

Well I took her to the bog and she did pretty good I think. When I got there I was hoping to get to run stock and almost did until one guy noticed that " I dindt have stock suspension or axles". So I had to run mod A which until a v8 gets thrown in I will never place.

They have free play before the races actually start so I put her in the first time and made it threw but thought it was kinda slow. So the 2nd time I ran threw I got into it. About a quarter of the way in I heard a bang and told my buddy somethin broke but I kept rompin her and made it threw what I thought was quicker. Stopped at the end of the pit and started lookin to see what broke and one of the staff comes out of the pit with my rear drive shaft. I spun the axle. Guess I forgot to burn the perches in good a few months ago. So I limped her back to the house fixed her and made it back down just in time to make an actual run. I ran 10.7 seconds which isnt great but I did beat at least one guy. Anyways sorry for the long post. I will put some pics up hopefully later or tomorrow.

These are the only pics I have. My buddy has the rest and a couple vids.

The couple hour set back
