I did a 4.0 swap into my 94 xl from a 94xlt. my xl was gutted except the fuel pump and tail light harness. I am having issues cranking it and am just trying to narrow down my possible screw ups.
I have a brown 6 prong female plug that comes off the dash harness right before it enters the firewall. (by the big white plug:icon_idea:) Anyone know what this plug goes too. I have searched for days and nothing.... :icon_confused: I also have a round black 4 prong fem plug on my alt harness that i can not find a connecter too either. any help would be greatly appreciated. Im trying to learn and with no one to help yallz are pretty much my only hope. :bawling:

I found what the brown 6 prong plug went to... its for the cruise control unit. and I believe that the small round black pug goes to the a/c lines or some other useless to me item.. hehe. anyway I cranked the truck today. the fuel relay switch was bad and I replaced it. And of course another issue arrises. it wont pull out of its own tracks. but no fear I believe i just didnt get the torque converter seated properly. Only problem with that is, its outside and its raining cats and dogs. so... another day. hopefully this weekend ill have my ranger back and cruisin the roads.

Glad you got it straightened out. I'm about to tackle my wiring. I got a 93 4.0 from an explorer and I'm putting it in my 94 ranger that was a 2.3. I went to the junkyard and found a 94 with a 4.0 and 5 speed and took the computer, and all under hood wiring, so I'm hoping I can plug everything in and be good to go. As long as the big white bulkhead connector fits I should be okay....

Thanks bud. As far as I know it is the same connector. The dash harness didn't look much different. I really don't know considering I changed out he whole harness(engine and dash)

You should be ok with the original dash harness. I just pulled a 3.0 (I know it's not a 2.3 but...) out and replaced it with a 4.0. I replaced the engine harness and the main under hood harness but kept the original dash harness. I've been driving it since Easter weekend with no issues. The 4.0 even came out of a '94 2wd and went into a '93 4x4.
