Will the 88 4x4 2.9 tranny bolt up to 84 4 banger?

Im having some trouble with the transmission in my 84 2.3 I4 4x4 man. trans. My buddies got a trash '88 with good tranny. Its a 2.9 v6 man. trans. 4x4. My question is: does the bell housing on the 88 v6 trans bolt up to the earlier 4 cylinder?

No.

The transmission is also a different overall length whick would require different driveshafts.

nope... the 2.8 2.9 and 4.0 all same family. 2.3 is on its own and so its the 3.0..
