Will it ever end? Now my Cat is bad! AAARRRGGGHHH!

Well it's not that it's hard to get into 2nd or 4th. I know I said that but it's really a matter of when the engine rpm's will allow me to put it in gear. When the rpm's have gone down it's relatively easy to put it into both 2nd & 4th.

I have to wait for the rpm's to drop a bit before I'm able to change into these gears. That's why I'm thinking I should have put a new pilot bearing in there.

Syncro's are toast, if you're going to pull it to put a new pilot bearing in it might as well look into the trans as well, I've all ways replaced the pilot bearing, or bushing when I replace an engine, trans, or clutch, last time I replaced the clutch in my 68 F100 the pilot bushing was visually oval shaped, put a new one in there (along with a new input shaft bearing), it didn't make it shift any different, 15 years ago when I rebuilt the trans and replaced all the bearings, and syncro's it shifted a whole lot easier considering the old bearings and syncro's were oem 1968 pieces with 247,000 plus miles on them at that time.

Thanks, I hope so too!

Well this is why I'm leaning more towards the pilot bearing. This motor sat for about a year in a garage and the pilot bearing was noticeably rusted looking. I know better but I still used it anyways like an idiot.

Plus, before I did the 2.5 swap (right before) the problem was not there. It only came after I swapped engines. I just did this swap last week and finally have all the little kinks worked out but it's just this tranny issue that I did'nt even relate to the pilot bearing until you told me.

I had a problem like this before but I can't remember which gears were a problem, a shop told me it was a pilot bearing. Sure enough, I changed it and the problem went away, although not completely.

I guess I'll try it and hope for the best as I don't have the cash or time now to rebuild my trans. Thanks for all your help guys.

What's the difference between fixing and repairing?

Fixing costs $20 & gets you home......

Repairing costs $$$$$ & gets you another 50,000 miles!

Don't you just get a kick outta it when i reply to a year & 1/2 old thread.....i know i do.....guh huk....guh huk !

i bought my 91 ranger and for some reason the idiot at the dealership the guy b4 me who owned it took it to, put standard manual tranny 80-90 weight in her!!!!i bought it..test drove it..thought the clutch was shit b/c it wouldnt go back into first or second afer stopin and releasin the clutch...turns out it calls for auto trans fluid(i have a mazda(stock) tranny) so after a good clean out and fluid change she shifts just fine..full throttle or just cruisin..i would suggest checking or even replacing the fluids to start..if that dont work....sorry...but ur in for a good 1k$'s worth at a shop to get it repaired...do it yourself and buy the kit for around 500 and a days worth of headace!!good luck!:P
