I've installed a cigarette lighter socket on my dash because my original one has no power. And I use my cell phone as a speedometer. I bought a unit from bell that holds the device has 2 USB connections and another cig socket on it. I mounted it on the dash to keep wires out of the way and so my phone would be in my peripheral view while driving. The bell unit I have has a "bell" blue light on top that lights up when it has power. Sometimes I don't drive the truck for 2 weeks.just wondering if in A 2 week period if it will drain my battery?

The battery is brand new.

Put a switch in-line so you can just turn it off. Then you won't have to worry.

Did you wire it directly to the battery, or so it only gets power with key on? If so then you shouldn't have problems.

If the blue light is a LED, then it won't drain the battery within 2 weeks. It should be plenty fine, even for over a month.

I spliced into the hot wire for the radio. Which isn't direct to the battery. Wires it into the trucks harness. . Which only comes on with key on but the light stays on no matter what

Not sure what it is its pretty small. Not very bright. I got it at k mart. I can take pictures if needed.

Just a phone charger with the light on it can kill the battery in two weeks. If it wired to the radio you should be fine.

Postin' from teh Galaxy

there is KO and constant power to the radio in most trucks though... depends which wire he tapped, I suspect he tapped constant

as a comparison, I have LED's in my doors that show if it's locked or not, and they drain the battery at a considerable speed...

I was on my phone, eating, and playing with the baby. I didn't read it too carefully.

And no, it doesn't take a lot to kill a battery, even over night. Ford specs out .05 amps as the maximum allowed draw for a stock vehicle. Most I see have .025 ish. So .026 amp draw, basically what the modules need to live, extra is enough to kill it in a day or two of sitting.

The green/yellow wire. I thought about using a switch but that just seems weird. Id rather unplug it.

Any body know off hand what wire is key on for a 94. I know hot is green/yellow. I think yellow/black

Green and yellow is radio memory, yellow and black is key-on power.

You did it bass ackwards.

Found the diagram. Wired it in for key on. If I plug it in while the stereo is on the stereo turns off till I unplug it.

Must be too much load on the circuit.

Hmm oh well guess ill hook it up on a switch or find something else to plug for power.

wire a relay to key on and the socket to continuous battery power. circuit would only be on when key was on and a relay doesnt have alot of draw on key on circuit.
