And no, it doesn't take a lot to kill a battery, even over night. Ford specs out .05 amps as the maximum allowed draw for a stock vehicle. Most I see have .025 ish. So .026 amp draw, basically what the modules need to live, extra is enough to kill it in a day or two of sitting.
maybe i misunderstand you, but that doesn't add up...
ford's stock vehicles all have a draw on the battery while sitting, this is common sense, between the ecm, pcm, gcm and at&t, there's lots of modules pulling a lick of the battery, additionally the PATS system needs power, and keyless entry. from the factory, with no additional accessories, ford's max spec is .05a (according to you, i haven't looked it up, but i'll trust you know this based on you work for ford) ok, cool, the most you've seen is .025, which is half the max allowable, ok cool. now what you're saying is that if you plug in a cellphone charger that draws .026a, on top of the normal .025 you're now running .051a draw, and this is going to kill the battery in a day or two? This is how I interpret what you say, if i've read it wrong, then never mind the below...
here's the issue, say the .051a draw kills the battery in 2 days that's 48 hours, which means that the vehicle has drawn 2.448 ah, which isn't really much, but that doesn't really matter. if the circuits in the vehicle draw .025, that means it will only take 98 hours (4days) to draw the same amount of current, and I know you can leave most fords with a good battery, (and no phantom draws) for a month, and start it back up, in fact, most vehicles are good for 30 days, we release 30 day impounds at work, all the time, and maybe 5% require a boost...
0.051a*48h=2.488ah
2.488ah/0.025a=97.92 h
additionally, an "average" car battery has in the neighborhood of 40ah of charge, provided it is new and full capacity, blah blah blah... (about 2 months of charge at .025a draw)
easiest way to answer the question, find out how much your thing draws, and figure out using the formulas i posted above, how long it will last based off of your battery...
