why lockers?

I can tell you 100% this is NOT how it works with the ARB air-lockers I have used. When those things are engaged, you are not spinning shit without the other side regardless of surface.

No, not ARBs... but Detroit Lockers, Lockright lockers, E-Z Lockers, Quick-Loks, and the Aussie locker, all do infact work that way. These are called "automatic" lockers.

i do agree on the selectables and did forget about those, but i do have to disagree on the lincoln locker. it tecnically is not a locker but more of a spool as it does NOT unlock at all and if it does something broke.

Read my sig, your no amateur on the topic. Neither am I.

With trusty old Lincoln there is 'technically' some weld electrode helping you keep moving, lol. However you want to view it, bottom line is, both tires spin the same speed, all the time, i'm sure we can all agree on that.

I dont know if I believe the opening statment where he said he knows
the concepts and functions of both
Sounds like he needs to do more homework. Again, not trying to be rude, just say'in.

oh absolutley i do agree that both tires will always spin but they never unlock and allow the each tire to spin at different rates of speed then lock back in if you see what i mean? a spool does exaclty as a "lincoln locker" does, both tires move at the same speed no matter what.

damn this day needs to be over, i need a beer.. :D

ok, so what I can decipher that your saying is these lockers that unlock when needed are good for like rock crawlin and then street use. But lets say somebody wanted to do a baja type truck, for like high speed over dirt and stuff. maybe prerunner style is the phrase I'm lookin for. Wouldn't the g80 be better for that then?

and thanks but I don't spend much time payin attention to others, not always the greatest advice. 80's clothing fads are all the explanation I need :icon_twisted:

well when I said that I meant the basic rule that with lockers both wheels turn at the same rate (great for burnouts) and limited slip only has one wheel turnin. I did get the g80 mixed up with it tho, my bad.

and idfc if you were tryin to be rude or not you still hurt my feelings so F****** badly. I feel depressed..I will kill now..where's a beer..mommy?

lol, jk

lol @ post #20

For baja, you want a spool, skrew lockers. Period. Your going fast in a straight, low traction situation. = SPOOL/WELDED :icon_cheers:

hmm..alright..then what about backtrail muddin? I'm tryin to think of something that g80 would be good for lol..not having too much success

Most people who have or want lockers do not actually need them though. They just want to be "hard-core".
Yep, I really don't have need to put power down to all 4 tires, it just makes me "hardcore"

Basically if you don't have at least one locker, your rig is a turd on the trail and will get stuck in the dumbest spots, I hate going anywhere with my buddies jeep, anytime any flexing is involved he's done because he's spinning with his LS rear and open front.

Most does not mean all. Honestly I know I don't need one for what I do... a locker would be nice at times but no means is required to stay unstuck.

How many people on here have lockers that "dont need them"? I cant think of one single person. I can think of a ton of people with lifts and tires that "don't need them" because their rig doesn't leave pavement. Lockers are typically one of the last and least common upgrades done and not done till the person realizes open diffs suck and they would have just smoked that section of trail had it not been for the tires with the most traction not getting any power, I learned this quickly and since wheeling locked, I'll never own another 4x4 (whether its a wheeler or not) without a rear locker, there's just no comparison. I hardly doubt there's a single person on here whos locked and "doesn't need it".

I can't wait to get a locker for the front now, got one in the rear and will never go back to open or posi. If your gonna wheel lock it or go home. At least get a winch if you don't have a locker to get out, and get one for when you do have a locker to get out because your stuck worse :)!

IMHO the G80 is good for a work truck that sees adverse terrain. Such as a contractor, or someone who works in forestry. It's definatly better than a limited slip, but not as good as a 'locker' in whatever form. I think it is well suited to where it is normally found.

I suppose if you only wheel on trails they would be advantagous, but we don't all have trails even remotely close to wheel on.

I am more of a vocational wheeler than a recreational one... and I am not ashamed to go just around a really bad hole (deeper than say, my hubs) rather than try to go thru it, because when you are in a field several acres in size it is really pretty easy to do...

Thats just called being wise!! lol, no need to be ashamed of that!

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

ok then am I right that sounds like a more desirable setup?

Not really.................

There is a reason people buy lockers and not limited slips. There is a reason the 4x4 community dosn't use the G80 style lockers.

Here's one of those reasons aside from what Dishtowel mentioned about not locking when you need it most. It got it's nickname GRENADE LOCK for a reason. I see this at work often & have to repair 'em. I love the grenade locks..............it helps keep my wallet full :)
