why lockers?

Grenade locks are good in theory since they drive like normal on the street but locking instantly while spinning creates some big shock-loads and leads to the above problem.

Not really.................

Here's one of those reasons aside from what Dishtowel mentioned about not locking when you need it most. It got it's nickname GRENADE LOCK for a reason. I see this at work often & have to repair 'em. I love the grenade locks..............it helps keep my wallet full :)

omfg..holy s!@# ok lockers it is lol. I can see now why dad's seems like such a good setup, because thats exactly what he uses it for, as a contractors truck (its in mint condition though considering that, seriously lol). But yea now I can understand not only by that but also by what was previously said too.

yup or Gov Bombs, which ever you prefer lol. this breakin of them is usually found in the 10 bolt rear end of the chevys but can also hae problems in the AAM 11.5 rear end on the diesel and 8.1L hds and up. mine has one with 120,000 on her and i four wheel it all the time. just gotta be easy on the throttle and DONT do burn outs with it. that little lock out device they have will sometimes catch a when your doin a burnout and BOOM, bye bye rear end. i would buy a different rear locker for my rear end but unfortuantly they do not make a different locker for the 11.5, only a limited slip. i heard ARB was comin out with something but thats gunna be expensive.

wow yea..thats like a 150% chance that it will be. I just discovered locker's aint cheap..my wallet go:scare: lol

I didn't mean IIII wanted to prerun, I was just trying to figure out where a g80 would be good. I'm actually more of a back-country muddy pothole-filled speeder, muddy field buster, basically stuff with going fastER and mud lol.(and I say that cuz you really shouldn't go speeding through mud..)

btw how would you weld it? like what parts of the ls would you weld to lock it? and..actually that kinda sounds like it'd break anyway, like having an actual locker would be supperior, am I wrong?

Depends on how good of a welder you are :icon_thumby:

if you do even a 75% job of welding your rear you wont break it with you stock motor and 35" or smaller tires. I dont think I have heard of welded diffs failing because of the weld.

How would you weld it? First you need to understand what every part of the diff is doing when you go around a corner. Then you will know what you have to do, i'm sure there is lots of pics to help with this learning.

If you want to spend the money, go ahead, but I think that is foolish for a guy in your position, so, I say again, JUST WELD IT, :thefinger: lol.

lol, yea thats for sure. when it comes time for the rear I'll deff have lots of learning to do too, but yea I can't argue with that point at all.
