Why jack stands are a must.

I will normally have the two jack stands with the jack holding the weight and will still place the tires (if not in the way) under each axle, or someplace where it will still prevent the truck from squishing me completely flat.

Jackstands, and put the wheels under the vehicle too as a back-up. In fact, i have been known to put threaded rod through the bolt-holes with washers and nuts on the end, and tie 2 wheels/tires together in a stack, then slide them under there.

last year a guy I graduated with was working in a shop when the jack failed... car landed on his head. I will never be totaly at ease under a vehicle. Ever.

I will allways shove some tires or something else under the bumpers so if the stands or jacks fail it wont hit the ground or me if I am under it. better safe than sorry.

I am always aware of everything even with 2 jackstands and a jack. I have begun the switch to mechanical jacks all the time (compact, more trusty, lighter to carry around in a cramped garage).

The ONLY time I am ever COMPLETELY comfy under a vehicle is when I can slide underneath, and look up at my lifted chassis with ease. :icon_hornsup:
