I'm sure it does. My point is I can tell the computer to open it faster through the run line and fast typing a lot faster than you can click on it with your mouse. Not every windows user has this ability, but I do. Its just an example of how windows is a better fit for a more skilled user.

The only reason my computer delays about 10seconds before playing media
is because I have it set to turn off the hard drives after a certain period of inactivity and it takes 10-12 seconds for a 7200rpm drive to "spool up"

Out of curiosity, have you ever done any testing to check for actual power savings from this? Of all the people here, I think you're the only guy who would actually take the time for it.

I used that feature to save my drives back in the day, especially old Western Digital drives that you'd have to keep RMAing until the warranty just ran out. I don't think it's a huge power saver, but if you add up everyone else in the World, it seems like that would be pretty significant. They make heat when they're running, and the less their running the better for it's life span. Stuff has gotten so much more reliable though. I haven't had a real bad hard drive crash in a long time, but I still do backups. Probably just jinxed myself =/

You can undo that by running backwards around your computer three times...naked...this works...I've tried it...

And if you chant "Muthaphuka, muthaphuka, muthaphuka..." while running it also keeps away mice...and neighbors...

It's not that I'm not open to it. It's that I've spent my years gaming on PC. The majority of the software I own is for PC. The future releases are largely for PC. I know you can run PC stuff on Mac these days, but why bother? The PC is cheap, effective, and I've messed it up enough times in the past that I know what to do to fix it now.

I have used all three.
I have had a light weight linux on my old PC
and I use a Mac for all of my video productions editing software. (final cut pro FTW)
I use Windows 7 for lurking and gaming on the internet.
In my personally opinion they all have there pros and cons. I'd rather use a PC for everyday stuff just because it's easier.

speaking of updates, whats up with the java and security updates every other day on my work pc... never understood windows for that one.

Independent security analysis of OSX versus the current generation of windows, year after year, update after update consistently reveals more security loopholes in Apple's OS than in windows, the key difference being that Apple has less than a 20% market share overall, and a considerably smaller market share in the business world, so hackers/virus-writers don't bother with them.
