My old grandpa once said to me,

"Son, there comes a time in every man's
life when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps and usually
it's when he becomes too old to take an ass whoopin'.

I don't carry a gun to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being
killed.

I don't carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this
world can be a scary place.

I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid. I carry a gun because there are
real threats in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I'm evil. I carry a gun because I have lived
long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because
I understand the limitations of government.

I don't carry a gun because I'm angry. I carry a gun so that I don't have
to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun
because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk
somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I
die and go to Heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men
know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because,
unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don't carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life
and the people who make it meaningful to me.

"Police Protection" is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect
themselves. Police do not protect you from crime; they usually just
investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean
up the mess.

Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to
take an ass whoopin'."

Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 4 minutes.

The average response time of a 357 magnum is 1400 FPS.

I'd love to own a hand weapon. But such power is not for me. I admit I have power problems, and would probably wave it around in a heated battle.

My old grandpa once said to me,

"Son, if you do that you will go blind"

I said

"Grandpa, I am over here."

i agree tho, i will start to carry in june. its for protection. its called CONCEALED carry, meaning its gonna be hid. i'm not doing it to "show off".. i do it b/c i live right next to memphis and work in south side memphis a lot. i know what happens out there... and i pray i never need the gun i carry, i pray i am just being over prepared for a situation that hopefully never happens.. but i will have that gun..

a couple hispanics tried to break in my explorer one night over the winter.. i had a pistol when i heard them and walked to the door about the time the glass broke on my left front door of the ex, did i shoot them? no.. wasn't worth killing someone over. did i let them know i saw them and had a gun, yes. but did i shoot at all? no. the ran off jumped in the bed of a truck and filed a police report. of course i just went to the JY and got a $13 glass for the ex, no insurance claim or anything. but has anyone messed with our stuff again? no. if they came towards me or the house or family- me or my father would not have hesitated to use the gun for protection. this story kinda tells how i feel about the right to carry a pistol.

I just like slingin lead and smellin gunpowder.:headbang:

...in the Tailgate forum. You realize General Discussions is not the only forum on TRS, right?

I agree, this would be better suited to the tailgate.

But considering he's a fairly new member, he probably hasn't subscribed to it and doesn't know it exists yet.

But on the other hand, if everyone felt like this, can you imagine how many people would have guns on them everyday? It would be like simolia or pakastan in the united states. Speaking from my own experiance learned in the army, along with my brother being in the army reserves and a maryland state police officer, i can honestly say the less people with firearms, the better off we will all be. Having a deadly weapon can be just as bad as being unarmed, and eather way, you still need to know how to defend yourself, and disarm somebody else....or somebody else better at hand to hand combat WILL disarm and kill you if it came down to it, especially if you pulled a weapon
