You know,I think you are right! Thank god nobody had a leagally carried weapon in Arizona,at Virginia Tech or Columbine. I shudder to think what might have happened?
Seems to me when a similar situation at Fort Hood happened, the killing didn't stop until someone who did have a gun stepped up and engaged him...

Wouldn't it have been nicer if those boys didn't have to wait 'til 13 of their fellow soldiers were dead before a woman had to show up and fight the guy by herself?
Cops by nature are almost never in the right place at the right time. Around here every time I've had to dial 911 the phone rings and rings for 5 minutes until I give up and hang up, then I get a phone call about 10 minutes later from a police department asking if I'm okay.
At Ft. hood it took 3 minutes for 13 soldiers to die, imagine what could happen to myself and my family in the 15 minutes it would take to even get a 911 operator on the line.
Laws do not apply to criminals, they break laws, that's what makes them criminals. Passing stricter and stricter gun regulations is going to do nothing but take weapons out of the hands of good people when they need them most.
This has been statistically proven time and time again. Look at the UK and Australia. Gun related crime doubled when Australia outlawed guns. Once the criminals knew that good people were unarmed, they were less hesitant to use their illegal guns to do bad things.
Now take a look at Switzerland. Every male citizen has to serve the military and once discharged they are allowed to retain their weapon, so theoretically every single household in that country has a firearm.
Go figure, they have the lowest gun crime rates in the world.
That's just my opinion on the subject, anyway...
