Why doesn't every truck have these?

didn't they make something like that before?
Comanche ring a bell for any of you Mopar guys?

The only way I'd buy a new jeep is if they weren't an italian company, they cut the price in half, I had a severe brain injury, they came with a lifetime warranty, and someone was threatening to kill my family if I didn't....

They'd probably still need to get me drunk before i signed the paperwork though.

unfortunately manual trans are a dying breed. The new bronco is supposed to have a manual trans so that will be sweet. Everyone wants an auto trans with 127 gears now-a-days. I remember when it was rare to see a manual with a 6 speed.... now its paddle shifters and "manu-matic" transmissions blah...

My kids both learned to drive on a stick. Very few of my daughter’s guy friends (romantic or not) could drive her car - I was always sort of embarrassed for them.

These days a manual trans is a theft deterrent device!

From my experience, 90% of local teens and early 20's "kids" these days:

Can't or won't bait their own hook, catch fish or take it off the hook if they do, let alone clean and cook one.. I was doing all of those by the time I was 7.
Can't or won't change a tire/wheel on a car, let alone demount a tire and put another on the rim.. I owned/worked on my own go-kart by the time I was 10.
Can't or won't do ANY work to their own automobiles.. (go-kart and lawn mowers prepared me for this quite well)
Can't or won't do more than one or two small chores.. I had a weekly list to complete by the time I was 10. If not, I got no allowance. I earned it.
Can't or won't drive/own a manual trans vehicle.. Mom gave me my first truck. 86 Ranger. She said "come drive it home" & I learned how by the time I got home.
Can't or won't do ANY gardening or grow anything. I was out in the garden learning while I was still in diapers.
Can't or won't mow the lawn, or do any weed whacking. This was part of my weekly list. To HELP mow, by the time I was 10.
Can't or won't get dirty at all. They actually act like they're scared of dirt or grease/oil. Everything is "gross" now.
Can't or won't cut any wood, clean up sticks/brush, let alone operate a power tool to assist in cutting wood. I had my own chainsaw by the time I was 12.
Can't or won't use any hand tools at all. Maybe a screwdriver at best.
Can't or won't assist in the care of their elderly grandparents. I was helping to care for my fragile grandfather daily by the time I was 12.
Can't or won't take odd jobs before they can legally work. I was shoveling driveways, cleaning ditches/gutters, painting for money by the time I was 11 or so.

Ok, old man rant over.

Get off my lawn!

For me, it's a challenge. I wonder if I've still got it? Can I still get off the clutch WITHOUT touching the gas on a flat road? Can I still start uphill without stalling or rolling back? Can I still shift without stepping on the clutch, and without grinding the next gear?

Those are all skills I taught myself. Maybe some day I'll get another car (or truck) with a clutch. I sure hope so.... I've had a few vehicles with a clutch over the years, and every time I switch to an automatic after having a standard, I have to figure out what to do with my left foot.

Many years ago I drove a Fiat 128 Rallye - 1300cc of screaming power. It was of course lowered and modified as much as my student budget could afford. Still, it taught me to drive a stick well. I learned to double clutch and match revs, etc. It had a cable clutch linkage that was known to break, and mine did a couple of times. I drove it about 45minutes to my parent's house to work on it with no clutch.

It weighed about 1800lbs and had a 4.42:1 final drive with a very low 1st gear - I could start it in 1st gear, and match revs once I got it going.
