were the sales down? I'm in the market for a new or newish truck and dont know what to get. it needs to be a 2wd and auto. I found a good deal on a 08 with a 3.0 (20k miles) and i really like it, but dont want to be making a mistake by buying a motor thats not made any more. I also drove a new 2.3 today and theres a noticeable power difference, but i like the mpg's of the 2.3:D any reasons why i should or shouldnt buy a 08 3.0? ..or should i just stick with the 2.3?

They were thinning out the options before they killed the Ranger.

2010 the last year? they are giving some good deals on the 2010's....

The 3.0 is a old school motor cast iron 2V heads about 150 horse 20 miles to the gallon. There cheap to make and run and the cars that have them are inexpensive too.The new Mustang has 300 horse and gets 30 miles to the gallon the old 3.0 just can't compete in the new car market it's much higher tech now.Just some guys opinion but I think that's it.

I think they dumped the 3.0 since it's got about the same power as the duratech 2.3(on paper) and the mileage slightly better than a 4.0. I loved my 3.0 never gave me any problems in my first truck. But i can understand getting rid of it since it's kinda of a worst of both worlds scenario. Low on power and less than spectacular mileage.

But in your shoes i wouldn't hesitate to buy the 08. They are great dependable motors. and if you plan on using it like a truck at all, you'll be happy you went with it over the 2.3.

I have a lima 2.3 and a 3.0 work truck. Surprisingly the 3.0 actually gets better mileage than my 2.3 loaded down with work tools. About 500 lbs in the bed plus 2 guys. probably 18-20mpg in the 2.3 and 20-22 in the 3.0.

lots of helpful info here guys...i think im sold on the 2.3!

i went and looked at a used regular cab 09 with the 2.3/auto(5500 miles) and managed to get them down to a good price. i left there and found a new 2011...same truck but an extended cab. im going to call tomorrow and see if theres 0% financing on the 2011's......

ive been to probably 5-6 dealerships and they all have just a couple or no new rangers on the lot.

found a new 10 with the 2.3/auto and brought it home with me:icon_thumby: thanks for all the help guys..
