So the other day one of my buddies asked me why I drove a truck as opposed to a car.

It kind of made me curious about why/how everybody ended up with their ranger, feel free to post your story.

Personally, I wanted something more useful than my Integra and I wanted the missus to have something more reliable than her Neon, so she got my car and I got a truck.

At the time, I had been looking into Tacomas and wanting one bad. I eventually decided I wanted something American and also in my price range so I got a Ranger.

I've had it about a year now and after owning a Ford I honestly can't picture myself ever owning anything else.

Lets hear how all of you ended up with your trucks!

I saw this great deal on a ranger in 1986. The new 2.9 fuel injected rangers had come out and nobody wanted the two 1985 trucks they still had on the lot and it was alreay April of 1986. So I lowballed an offer on one and they said no way as it had way to many options on it. Left the dealer and a week later saw the truck with a price tag on the window even lower than I had offered them the previous week. Well I waited till that evening when I got of work to go make an offer on it and someone had beaten me to it. (it was a shortbed with custome paint). So I was a little pissed at myself.

The dealer showed me the other truck he had and I was only a little interested if only the sale to the girl that took my dream tuck fell through. Well her sale went through and I ended up with the truck I still have today. My second choice, but fell in love after I lifted her.

Turned into a love affair and I still can't bring myself to ever part with her. Guess thats why I kept her for 24 years.

Very cool. Most marriages now-a-days don't even last 24 years, let alone owning the same truck.

wanted a little truck use for hauling a lawn mower to do my mowing jobs...bought the ranger at auction for $550. Drove it for about 3 months, stopped doing mowing jobs, then got a real job.

Engine in the thing is very tired, so my neighbors friend sold me another 2.3 for $200 with half the miles on it then the one in my truck right now. So my ranger has been sitting for a year now waiting for the "new" engine to be sunk into it.

Why i picked the ranger over anything else? I dont like Asian truck/cars. I dont like GM vehicles. The ranger is fun little truck that can haul even with the 2.3. But the main reason i bought it was because at that time we were paying upwards of $4.00 a gallon for gas. Haha, ya i bought it mainly for good gas mileage.

i have to haul my dirtbike around so i wanted to get a truck, but i didnt need anything to big like an f150, or f250 because i dont haul much. i also like the rangers body style vs. any other small truck style. i do have a small car too, but building an engine for it(RHD Mini Cooper)

NW

Well I bought my first BII (85 auto w/man 4wd) because some pilled out douchebag broke all of the windows of my little Tercel I was days away from putting on the road.

That in a roundabout way turned me onto the Ranger as it so similar, just in truck form. (I traded off my F150 for an 86 BII so I needed another truck) LOL

I needed to haul my little trailer to get my bike to the track. I only had 14k to spend on a a vehicle for such a frivolous purpose, so the Ranger it was.

I was driving a minivan at the time (shut up, I got it for free) and was like " EFFFF this"
so i cruised on down to denver and saw that all the Tacomas were high mileage and too damn expensive so I stumbled across my '04. Spent double the money I intended too but couldnt care less, I liked the truck that much. I chose a truck cuz I wanted 4wd and somethin I could tow and haul stuff with. went ranger over F-150 because it had a stick.

i used to be a crown vic/grand marquis guy but got tired of rwd in mn winters and wanted to put my system in something other than a trunk car. I always liked rangers and my grandpa worked at the st paul ranger plant forever and only owned rangers and always had good luck with them so i thought id get one.

1000 bucks for a runnin 4wd. Free for my Ranger. I've always driven trucks and they've always been Fords. My truck for work is a Colorado, but I don't pay for it so whatever.

I like the fact that when it snows I don't have to stay at home 'cause my vehicle won't go anywhere... I like that no matter where I wanna go and what I wanna take with me I have room for it (except people). I've always just liked trucks better than cars... I feel like I don't have as many blind spots and I feel safer... whether those last 2 are actually true or not I have no idea but that's how I feel

I can give 10 reasons why I drive a truck

1. I have the ever useful bed!
2. Im higher of the ground than a car therefore im much less blinded by headlights
3. I can pull a trailer if needbe(LOL I learned that one the hard way)
4. even though I dont have 4x4 I can go offroad pretty well if I need to. Need not worry about bottoming out.
5. I have less passanger room therefore I dont gotta drive my rig on roadtrips with groups of friends
6. Anything disgusting I have to haul(My job=DIRTY, mike rowe did it once actually) goes in the bed.
7. Better vision, with all the blind turns in Phx Area this comes in handy.
8. Better of in Monsoon flash flood conditions,
9. more roomy for me.
10. Theres just something women like about a ranger

Please tell me thats an old pic otherwise you took excellent care of that truck. :icon_thumby:

Country0001. I feel your pain. My company truck is a two year old silverado. Biggest piece of crap ever.

I like all the different reasons. Kinda cool that there's so many reasons for the same thing
