Why a truck?

My dad bought it used in Nov 88 because at the time the only two vehicles we had were my mom's 86 Sentra and his 77 Kawi bike. While both were ok, neither were the thing to be driving in a PA winter. He never had a reason to get rid of it until I was about 14 or 15 when the kids got too tall to fit both of us in the back seat and he bought a 150, at which point it was just cheaper to keep the ranger as a 3rd car until I started driving instead of trading it in since he'd get next to nothing for it. He gave it to me when I turned 16 and I've been driving it almost ever since. Had a few snags here and there and I toyed with the idea of getting rid of it a couple times, but then always just ended up fixing it. Eventually realized that I have too much time and money in that truck to ever get rid of it, and the first date I had with my wife was the last time i drove it before i had to put it away for 9 months to figure out why it would run consistently, so she wants to keep it to. Guess she is here to stay.

LOL you let your daughter roll in a escort station wagon:icon_rofl: . she'll love the ranger Im sure but I gotta ask if the age was a typo?

I didn't say she enjoyed the Escort. In fact when I bought it two years ago and told her she was learning to drive in it, she actually cried for a long time. Now she has a friend with a Cherokee and they debate on which one is worse, the Escort or the Cherokee. The Ranger is an 86 which I am sure she will not like because she wanted a vehicle that was younger than she is. But 86 is a good year because my wife and I both graduated from high school. And besides, I told her she can have the Escort or the Ranger and I didn't care which one she takes.

I can say that I have been busting my butt to get it done for Christmas and I think I will make it, but my body is sure reminding me of muscles that I haven't used in a while. She should have primer by next Saturday so I am getting a little excited about it as well.

I got a truck because wheelin is too damn fun not to have one.

Also the bed can be converted into a mobile swimming pool.

And I can throw crap in the bed too.

i picked a truck over a car because, as much as i like going fast and pretending im racing, i like going off road more. also being able to haul stuff like my dirt bikes is a huge factor in deciding what vehicle to get. i had a sierra before my ranger and i loved it but it was just too big. it had a retarded turning radius, and got terrible gas mileage. i liked it, but i have always liked the smaller trucks more.

i have already dumped a lot of money into keeping my little 88 ranger running, but i dont regret spending any of it. this truck is perfect for me. it has 4x4, good styling, 2 inch lift, and best of all its a 5 speed manual. it also gets about 18 mpg, which is better than my sierra could ever dream of.

There are way to many reason to owning a truck over a car.
1. I don't like to look like the f*cking idiot leaving home depot with the trunk flying free and a 2X4 on my dash.
2. There's something women like about a pickup man.
3. I'am the only son who still lives near the same area as the parents so I'am forced to help with transporting large bulky items considering my dad drives an 07' Mini Cooper Conv't and my mom drives an 66' VW Bug.
4. Great White has a sidekick (KLX110) and once in a blue moon he takes it up to the local OHV trails for a mobbbbb sesssssion!
5. In a car crash I like to be above the accident not at the same level. - flattening and smashing all the sh*tty little prius' and shivics.

the list could keep going thats just a few

make sure she knows about this place , join our community , and what state do you live in that you can drive at 15 ? IIRC it is Iowa , my uncle just moved there and my 15 year old cousin found out she can get her license and is throwing a fit because my uncle and aunt are still applying NY rules to her

and on to the reason i have a ranger , well , dad gave me his old one when i was 15 for a field bomber , and then i bought another , then another , i just fell in love with the rangers , but i like older chevys too , my main vehicles i will own are american trucks , and muscle cars , i get made fun of at college by the diesel kids because i drive a ranger , they cannot understand that people have the ability to drive what they want , gas or diesel , and drive what they feel comfortable and happy in

i had an 85 ranger when i was eighteen and i hated the thing. it blew up three weeks after i got it, and from then on i was like f ford. i then bought an 84 camaro and sunk about 3 grand into rebuilding it. recently i decided it was for a trade and i was giving an offer to trade for a 97 ranger, 2.3L 4x2 five speed. when i test drove it, i fell in love. sure its not power house but it is really comfortable and kind of fun to drive. def. a good investment

why truck or ranger

i ended up with my ranger because of 3 reasons:
1) owned fullsize trucks from day one and used for hauling all kinds of stuff...
2) family has had fords since i was old enough to know what a car or truck was...
3) fuel prices went upwards of 3.75 a gallon, meaning 4X4s with bb fords and 8 mpg means i needed and upgrade...
then i found out the the 2.9 is a gutless wonder and wouldn't pull itself out of a mud puddle thus facilitatied my locating this sight and seaserching the 4.0 swap thats now completed... you can't haul a full dressed 460 or a dana 44 fullsize in a escort or a taurus.....:headbang:
