Why a truck?

:icon_rofl: :icon_rofl: :icon_rofl: :icon_rofl: :icon_rofl:

Just gotta give ya shit cause I hate your avatar. So did mommy make you take the kids to soccer practice :icon_rofl:

LOL, no but I did try bringing it offroad..... that didnt pan out so well.:icon_rofl:

This Is one of those questions that I give people the blank stare. "why a truck?" why the hell not!

Thats like this van I just got (no, not another minivan, a '81 Econoline 100) when I tell people I got a van they are like "why?" I'm like pppssshhh whadaya mean why? what cant you do with a van....
smuggle illegals/drugs
kidnap/rape
live in it down by the river.....
the list goes on...

originally wanted a dodge or f250 diesel, for reliability, but heard good things about the 3.0. boy did they lie to me. nah im kidding, i love the rangers and it was my first choice once i saw diesels with 300k on them going for 8 grand. sure itll go another 300k, but what about the rest of it? besides, i dont haul that much and i just wanted 4x4 for the snow here in the mountains

well, i knew i wanted a truck right off the bat. excellent off-road capability (besides, jeeps are too unreliable), excellent parts availability and huge aftermarket (everybody messes around with trucks haha), and by far the most practical for me (towing/hauling crap). i also knew it would be a FORD. i couldnt see myself driving anything other than one. i would rather get castrated than drive a chrysler/dodge product, cant stand jap crap, and GM is ok, but ok isnt good enough for me. so i was originally planning on an obs 7.3l powerstroke, but the prices were just wayyy too high for me. so while poking around on craigscrap, i found my baby. 89 ranger ext. cab, 2.9 auto, 2wd, graphite in color. $400 took her home. at first i wasnt very happy since i felt like i was settling for something less. however, after driving numerous powerstrokes at work, i found that my ranger simply fits me better. everything is exactly where it should be. its a piece of cake to get parts for, and its sooo versatile since i got the extra cab i can carrry a bunch of people around comfortably (well for me at least). my race quad fits in the bed LIKE A GLOVE! less than an inch of extra length when the beds closed!

so now ive fallen in love with it and 302 , 4 speed m/t, 4wd, and d44 sas, and 33x12.5" plans are in the works...

im not planning on getting rid of my ranger. (however, i may eventually retire it from dd duty and use it as a dedicated trail rig).

Please tell me thats an old pic otherwise you took excellent care of that truck. :icon_thumby:

Notice the date in the picture in the lower left?
Yes I did take good care of her. Kept her off the road in the garage for about 7 years and just got her running again last month.

i thought why not. own a truck for 10 years out of the last 12.

got my ranger after i needed to get my wifes damn china cabinet home from the damn antique mall and it sat there for 3 week while i tried to get a truck borrowed. i said eff this and got my ranger.

my previous trucks were a pre 86 nissan ( i loved this one), a 91 dodge dakota, 79 chevy full sized, (was meh on this one) 86 nissan truck (300$ ran great) 84 dodge d-150 (loved this beast) and my 93 ranger, which my only complaint is it is a regular cab. but it is one of the easiest to work on.

lol, it certainly does.

I'm sure everyone here can agree on the old saying. "The more I learn about women, the more I love my truck"

It was cheap, has two doors, and is rear wheel drive (no FWD for me please.) Also, Rangers are cute and I've always liked them (sorry guys, it's true!)

well, bought a 90 2.3 5 speed when i was 15. came across my 88 2.9 5 speed when i was 16. unlowered it, rebuilt the topend(head gasket blown) and romped around with that for 2 years. moved to va from nj and bought my 99 3.0 auto 4x4 in 05. been rocking that since. never used the 90 but it moved to va with me and my now brother in law used it and it will live forever! why a ranger, was brough up under the blue oval, driven or worked on other makes, saw what happens to other makes in accidents...so ranger it is! and forever will be!

I got my 84 from my dad who bought it new after he sold his 78 GMC, Which I will admit was a pretty sweet looking truck from the pics. (78' std. cab, step side, red, and some custom stuff.) Because gas sky rocketed. Anyways he liked it and kept it even through my parents having 2 kids. Then I got it, In alaska cars aren't really a good thing to have. We lived on a dirt road and semis drove up the hill consantly and washboarded the roads. Not to mention like 3 - 4 feet of snow 8 months out of the year. A FREE truck fit the bill nicely, I lifted it and put a muffler and some lights on it, not to mention that it can haul pallets and 4 wheelers down the beach. It just fit...

Now I have a 99' 3.0L, 5spd, blue, ex cab, step side. I paid 5 grand and it has 90,xxx miles on it. I couldn't bare to get a car, after driving and owning a truck, They are really really useful.

Truck

The first car I bought was a truck when I was seventeen in about 1980 always had a truck since.Usually kept a second beater to drive everyday tried a focus but its so restrictive.Love the bronco now that I have it set up .My current truck is a 95 f-150 with 80000 miles.Went without a truck about 6 months a few years back and I felt choked and neutered.

i ended up with a truck cuz i was tired of bumping my prev car's floor on every road bump, besides i felt like a loser driving something too small and low.
never going back to cars, for now on trucks, lifted trucks:D
