Watch it! It will run your engine backwards! I shit you not! I just seafoamed to try to fix a small amount of pinging I noticed yesterday, it seemed to clear it up.
SO I'm sucking it through the vacuum line for the cruise control thingamabobber, I shut off the engine and it starts to deisel, typical, always happened before and stops after a few puts, well, this went on for a bit and stopped for a split second, then boom, the engine started going backwards! all the accessories were turning the wrong way and it was making a terrible noise. Did it for a good 2 seconds before it shut off. Smoke was pouring out of the intake this whole time. Scared the crap out of me.
Do you think this might have done any irreversible damage?

it ran backwards? sweet, how many miles did it take off? lol

just kidding

i seafoamed about 2 months back in my 00 explorer and it has run AWESOME ever since. i sucked it through the vacuum tube on the brake booster and poured the rest in the gas tank. and just an FYI, when i worked at jiffy lube, we charged $60 for a service that did the same thing. a can of seafoam cost $10

so to answer your question tox1k, i dont know what you did, but you fuked up somewhere, good luck, hope you didnt do any irreversible damage

The old 2 stroke diesel engines you could run in either direction. In fact, in some specific designs, that was how you engaged reverse. You shut the engine off, and then cranked it over the other direction!

As for damaging anything, it shouldnt have. You might have blown a vacuum line off or two, but shouldnt have hurt the motor.

Yeah, it started right up afterwards and drove fine, but I'm not sure if there's anything that is able to be damaged by running in reverse like the power steering pump and what not.

hell if anything major had happened im sure it would have reared it ugly head right away.

if it runs and drives fine i doubt that you did any damage with that it would show up the next time you drive it

The oil pump only works when it's going in the right direction but if you still have oil pressure you should be all right.

Oil pressure is still sitting at normal. just scare the crap seeing it turn over in reverse all by itself like that.
WHat would cause one engine to diesel on sea foam and the other to not? The truck was cool as it could be for being 102 degrees outside.

does seafoam have alcohol in it?

Nope, pure distilled Chuck Norris. He musta just got turned around in there with his roundhouse kick.

LMFAO!!!!!

as stated above the only damage that i would expect (if any) would be blown off vac lines... the p/s pump shouldn't be effected, as i BELIEVE it is a centrifical pump, so it would more or less still pump the same direction in reverse (even though it would not work nearly as well) same goes for your water pump, it should still pump coolant the right direction, just not as fast...

being it only ran backwards for a few seconds, i wouldn't worry about any issues stemming from oil, as a motor can run dry for a short time with minimal issues, no worse than a cold start...
