i want to convert to manual brakes as opposed to power-brakes. mostly because i have a very large camshaft with a long duration and it does not draw enough vacuum to power my brake booster.

it is a 1988 bronco II. i also have a 1985 broncoII to rob parts from if i need to. i bought a master cylinder for a manual brakes 1985 ranger.....is it that simple? just remove the booster and bolt the master cylinder in its place?

I'm not a fan of manual brakes..Mayb look into hydroboost?

"looked into" everything. and manual brakes may suck a little more than boosted when running but suck a whole lot less than boosted when your engine has stalled. i had a hydroboosted '84 chevy that i put a big block in place of the diesel. at idle the brakes sucked bad. i looked into the $300+ electric vacuum pumps too.

despite all of that is there even a hydroboost to fit a 1988?

Some years of Mustangs use the powersteering pump and it generally works ok. If you stall the motor how fast can you be going and just leave the truck in gear and it will either start or stop .

on 3 different occasions i had major mechanical failures and had to coast down steep, windy canyon roads, i blew my motor at the pikes peak race last july and had to coast 12 miles downhill to the bottom so if the question is:
you stall the motor how fast can you be going

the anser would be about 35-60mph for 12 miles through 158 corners

or on several steep trails when i had an engine stall, and i needed to coast down rough terrain the braking force just wasn't there.

i found an early '90s ford diesel truck hydroboost for no less than $190 with core charge, i would need the master cylinder to match it for $52 with core charge, i would need a reservoir for the master cylinder (which i cannot find yet) and then i would need a chevy power steering pump with the extra fittings for the hydroboost which i can get from a j/y for $75 or new for $200 either way i could pay for the electric vacuum pump and then some

check into the brake master and pump for a 92 Lincoln mark Vll. It has a pump and accumulator on the master cyl. I believe it's a Teves mark2 system. it also came on some GM and foreign cars.

If you do go ahead and go from power to manual you'll also need the pedal assembly from the truck you got the manual stuff from IIRC.

look on the last page of my build thread and it shows how i mounted my hydroboost unit from a 98 mustang cobra. On my '94 I Just had to drill 2holes for the top studs on the booster and extend the rod that attaches to the pedal .5"

what is different about the pedals? the manual master cylinder came with the rod that attatches to the pedal

The manual pedal arm is longer. Without that longer arm to give you more leverage against the master cylinder your "manual brake setup" is just a power brake setup with a bad booster.

i wonder who sells the pedal assembly new. according to autozone's website 1% of all rangers came with it and based from my research, 0% of the junkyards in my area have any

or you can buy a nicer master cylinder that doesnt require a booster, and it will be more powerful than, "power brakes"

LMC might be able to get you hooked up with something.

lmc has nothing......first place i looked

if i install the manual master cylinder to the firewall. what will i need to do to make it work?

will i need to modify the geometry of the pedal to have more leverage? more throw?
