who has converted to manual brakes?

I'll see what i can do...

yes the manual master cylinder came with a new pushrod. too bad you have manual pedals where you are because i have none......they've been robbed.

if you track one down i'd pay you to ship it to me

i actually have swapped a grill for one set i need to pick up yet..for my project..the other is in a friends neighbors field...we're trying to buy the whole thing at the moment....As soon as i can i"ll find what i can offer ....i will be working on that next week.....

What camshaft are you using? I had an Erson Hi FLow II on a 351C 4V with 235/235 @ .050 on 108* centers. Definately a rough, low vacuum idler, but I added a vacuum resevoir and it was fine.

custom grind comp 600 lift 282 @.050.......no vacuum

Specs with pictures:

The fulcrum is 2 1/2" above where the brake rod connects on the brake pedal, in other words, the Master cylinder rod connects 2 1/2" below the pedal pivot bolt.

I could not get a side view, too many pedals in the way.

In order to pick up the set of manual brake stuff i have "swapped for"..the owner has to pull an engine and trans in a wrecked pu....

He is just getting around to get that done so it coudl be a few days....or weeks....hope not....we'll see...

sorry i don't have a sample in my hands yet...

the pix that oilpatch offered do a good job of showing what it's about....

i swapped to manual brakes over the weekend, all i did was drill the holes in the firewall 1" lower, bolted the manul master cylinder to the firewall, attatched the included rod to the brake pedal, and it all worked out fine

Good job.....

Great way to approach it...I'm sure you used some kind of re-inforcing plate on the firewall..?...I noticed that the factory manula brake had a plate to seal the other holes etc....

good job...

keep in mind that the entire 1/4" pedal hanger assembly sanwiches the firewall between it and the master cylinder. so with the thickness of the firewall there is easily 5/6" of metal. and to seal it i used the original plastic boot that covered the rod on the brake booster, and put short bolts in the original 4 holes to fill them.

Good job. again....

I think this thread will probably be the best to date info for this swap...at least since I've been lurking here....
Seems it should be an easy swap for anyone really interested in a manual brake setup....

what parts did you use, and how are your brakes compared to before?

i used this: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/ca...yName=Brakes+&+Traction+Control&parentId=44-0

which came with a rod to attatch to the brake pedal. i drilled the top 2 holes 1" lower, and used 1 1/2" grade 8 3/8" bolts that i bought from home depot. to bolt it to the firewall. it did bring my brake pedal up a bit from where it was. but not enough to worry about. it takes a bit more pushing but once again not enough to worry about.

the only snag i hit was that the one of the threaded holes in the master cylinder for the brake lines was different, and autozone didn't have an adaptor so i had to go to a hose/fitting specialty shop for the $2 adaptor

manual brake/cable clutch

what exactly has to be done to the pedal for manual brake swap and can i use my existing master? i made a bracket that bolts to my stock ranger pedals so i can use a cable clutch for my t5 and it is awesome id post pics if i knew how i have like 50 pics of what i all did and it works awesome but no room for the vaccume assist now which i wanted to get rid of anyway.
