I have a 2006 3.0 sport ranger with 4.10 axle and stock p235 15 tires. I would hope to think it could make it to 180km/hr?
I have a speed limiter at 150km/hr.

I'm just curious because my old 96 2.3 ranger had a max speed of 145km/hr and was curious what the difference would be to this truck.

A lot higher than you should be driving under any conditions.

I agree. Even if you're driving on a track, your truck, and more importantly your stock tires aren't rated for high speeds. The governor is there for a reason. If you have a tire blowout at high speeds, really bad things happen.

Now, if you had speed rated tires (like mine), upgraded suspension (like mine), better brakes (like mine), a lowered truck with less drag (like mine), and a way to remove the governor (like a tuner), a Ranger with a stock 3.0 could probably get to around 110-115mph (175-185 kph) on a closed course with a long enough straight.

Am I the only Ranger owner in the world without a governor? I've been past 100+... I always figured it was a fluke with mine being a FFV or something since my friend's '98 non flex but otherwise mechanically identical ranger sputter's around 94-96mph.

I guess on a sidenote, is there anyway to figure out if a previous owner (bought the truck in 2007 with 78,000miles) might have re-tuned the truck? The thing is a turd unless I run at least 89 octane in it or E85, and of the 3 people I know with 3.0's ( two '98's and a '00 FFV), mine seems to have the most get up and go, granted the one 3.0 is a 5spd with different gears.

I dunno much about the metric system, but I would venture to guess that your top speed is 150 KPH.

You top safe speed? Closer to 120 KPH.

Your truck is made to haul things. Not race. Buy a mustang cobra, or a vette

Yours isn't the only one...

I only hit my limiter once, thought about removing it but never really felt the need to ever get it removed at the end of the day. I mean how often do you really NEED to go over 90 mph (mine topped out at 90).

I know we all want to go fast and see how fast we can go but I've heard it can get dangerous in our trucks. Our drive axles can only handle so much...

And thats just what the Explorer will do... you dont want to know about my Cobra.

I'm just wondering if maybe there was an ECM flash or tune. Apparently they release them once in a while because when we had the transmission rebuilt in the Contour, the mechanic mentioned an updated program for the ECU from Ford. Idled a bit better and shifted a bit firmer afterwards.

I'm guessing it's like a BIOS update - nobody seems to update them unless they know about it or need to :P

Mine has seen triple digits, and has never had any PCM tuning done that I know of. The previous owner was a local municipality that used the truck for interstate work, so I doubt anything other than regular maintenance was done. Maybe it's a flex fuel thing?

Thats what I was wondering myself, since the FFVs I know of are pretty peppy.... I wish I had a pic of my co-worker pulling a trailer with an AC D15 and other equipment - of course I told him his truck wasn't made for THAT!

You can get programmers that will eliminate the speed limiter, but a Ford reflash will never remove one on purpose.

That being said, automotive engineering is a field entirely populated by idiots and I can believe that they might well issue an update that accidentally took it out.

My '00 flex fuel Ranger was limited to approximately 95 mph. My SCT programmer took care of that.
