Whats broke on your ranger


Sadly mine is getting this way as well.....

Mine has pretty good tires...

Needs an engine, needs bodywork, needs an alignment/suspension work. Front wheels are /--o-\ and it has a perpetual squat. The parking brake doesn't ratchet, and the driver door light switch wiring has had a mouse attack it and shorts against the cab and blows the fuse.

Probably has more crap that I am forgetting but yeah, the only thing I have a lot of faith in is the tires and the radio. :icon_thumby:

speedo cable is sticking again, the pull handle handle on the drivers door is broken, the light for my aftermarket temp gauge needs rewired, need a grill, a stonedeflector,and the third cylinder has low compression.

gee it doesn't sound so bad now that i wrote it down.
 
My drivers side window sticks a little when you roll it up. You would think they would make it last longer than 27 years.

Actually, as hammered as mine is, it mostly works. The power windows work, but both doors are caved in so the windows don't go up or down very far, two inches each about--right outside handle doesn't work, but the inside does so you can reach through. The cruise control works. The engine, trans, transfer and brakes +parking brake are great. The lights all work except both headlights are bashed out. Rear window wiper works, but the glass is broken out due to a snow-plowing incident. Nice to watch the wiper waving around in the empty frame though.

Besides that, it's totally functional.
 
lets see...

Ranger:
-no spark, most likely bad crank sensor somehow (have spare, getting other details of it taken care of before replacement)
-radiator leaks, needs replaced
-power steering pump reservoir leaks BAD
-need to put the electric fan on to clean things up under the hood
-front output on transfer case is LOOSE, will replace case with a manual 1354 when I do my drivetrain swap...
-my drivetrain needs swapped along with the lift I've had sitting in the garage
-ABS light is on

Explorer:
-windshield broken
-alignment
-ABS and brake lights are on on the dash
-tires are about shot
-installing the hitch I've had for like a year
-replacing the upper radiator hose I have sitting in the garage

-engine SHOT, needs replaced otherwise relatively mechanically sound...
 
well it dont run but im getting parts form pwrranger88, the headlights dont turn on and the rearend but i have one from a mustang i think the gears will fit mine
 
The lenses to my foglights fell of sometime before I bought the truck, and I don't want to pay $100 for replacements. Im thinking of wiring in some aftermarket fogs right now. And something is wrong with the wipers. When they aren't on a high speed setting they will randomly stop for a few seconds in the middle of the windshield.......Anyone know what causes this wiper problem?

check the red wire going into the wiper motor.it should be hot anytime the ignition is on-whether the wipers are on or not.if it isn't hot,they will do what you described.

btw-by 'hot' i mean has power to it.figured i'd better be clear on that.
 
Hmmm...bent and mangled driver side coil bucket....bent drivers side axle beam.....seized on board air compressor...and a blown passenger side brake flex hose...

Its in the shop right now getting a new beefed drivers side axle beam, extended radius arms, new driver side EB coil bucket and a new brake flex hose on passenger side.

currently needing repair?
healight mounts (headlights point very screwy)
radiator is shaped like a u
leaky valvecovers
slave cylinder leaks
dents here and there rust here and there
tailgate handle is kinda lame
needs injectors
funky idle (hope injectors)
exhaust leaks cause shotty mechanic uncle cant unstall muffler parts proper
3 sets of wheels, none in usable shape.
(2 sets have bent wheels, one of my aluminums are wrecked due to a lack of retorquing allowing the wheel to rip off)
dual fuel tank switch is a no go
parking brake doesn'T HOLD squat.
never has.
any ideas why?
new cables...
 
Hmmm, right now, the only thing broke in my truck is me.
 
I've got a bad motor mount in my '96. The driver's side of the engine is held down with a ratchet strap and has been for a few months. The battery light comes on occasionally for no reason and does some other weird stuff. My other Ranger doesn't really have any issues other than a possible stuck thermostat. I think both of my other pickups need power steering pumps but no other significant problems.
