Ok guys I'm a Ranger newbie so bare with me ok. I modified a 1993 Ranger 4.0 5speed yada yada. I'm faced with a dillema...it has high mileage and a little sluggish with the 35 swampers. I'm trying to decide if it would be easier to do a V8 swap or rebuild and beef the V6. I have looked into the V8 Swap details and am a little confused with what I could do for a transmission...from what I understand they don't make an adapter for the mazda tranny to a V8. So what are my options? I was going to use a donor fullsize truck for the swap but I want to keep it a 5speed.

302 I assume?

Im not 100% sure...but the F150 also ran a mazda trans, if they are the same length you could find a 5sp (shouldnt be to hard, look in trucks with the 300) and bolt it in?

later,
Dustin

Yes I was going for the 302...but am having an issue finding a donor fullsize with the 5.0...but i did find a 4x4 5speed 300 f150. Would that work?

BTW the f150 is a 1989. Waht T-5 can I use for this swap...i got a lead on a couple. I would need a transfer case adapter and what not right.

You may want a T-5 but the adapters have not been made in maybe five years. Stick with what you can get out of a F-150, trans and x-fer case.

The 5 speed from the 300 will bolt up to a 302, but you cannot use the flywheel, it's neutral balanced.

Ok I just found a 92 F150 XL 5.0 speed with transfer case..this should work as a perfect donor truck?

Ok they are different. But if I take the driveline out of the 92 F150 i should be abe to do this swap fairly easy If i can find the adapters and with a few helping hands. I'd have to change my driveshaft too right?

You will have probs with the tcase, the fullsize case is too wide and will contact the frame. Find a Tcase from a 5.0L explorer and use that one

Take all you can from that F-150, motor, trans and x-fer case and under the hood wiring. The only x-fer case that really causes problems is the huge BW-1356

Well I found another 5.0 5speed guys.. all i had to do was look a lil harder. I have found 2 trucks. Which do you think would be a better donor.

1992 F150: Engine blows smoke is a stuck valve or ring job and T-case is missing the linkage. $400 can drive away but smkes like hell

1994 F150 XLT: Supposedly runs good no issues has all stuff. I am of course going to rebuild the 5.0 in either truck. $600

My buddy an the engine shop is going to rebuild the engine: I'm not going 4 anything crazy i told him to through in a decent cam and work the heads a little bit.

I'd say get the one that runs, haha... I believe you can bolt an NP205 (much smaller than the 1356) up to the M50D-R2 ... I'm not 100% sure though...

The 94 has a better roller cam than the 92. Just a hair less cam than the HO 5.0. Almost equal after you bolt on a set of 1.7 rockers
