Hey, I was going to toss a snorkel on my truck, but I have ran into a design problem -- wtf to use to top the snorkel, to keep water out but let lots of air in.

What have other people used that works?
What about shit people have used that didn't work?
Pictures are appreciated.

Thanks!

where are you going that's going to need a snorkel? stave, where the water is deep enough, you will not be able to get to, it's much to sloppy you will get very stuck before you get that deep...

do an inner fender snorkel, and leave it uncapped...

my thread that i need to update...

On my 91, I ran it into my cowl. Been up to the windshield in water with no problems.

das not the way i thought you had done it!

that's a cool idea... do you think that could work for a 302 or larger engine upgrade.

Sasquatch's? i doubt it... most people who do a 302 conversion have to put a body lift on it, so the hood clears... which would make me think that there would be minimal room between the hood and the engine

Make sure to add water and gravel in the snorkel....your truck will have more hp.....lol

Use a pvc cap 2 sizes larger than the current snorkel pipe size. Use 3" self tapping screws, arranged in a triangle as close to the caps lip as possible, this will allow you to center the cap on the pipe.

Sorry, hope this helps. It's very effective, I get next to no mud or water inside my air box.

I did the same thing, only I used a slightly different shaped cap.

Somebody just posted in another thread that they got PVC vent caps at a hardware store.

I cant stand all those misc plumbing and lawn mower crap topping a snorkel, maby if its a total pile of crap truck but not on anything decent. It looks backwoods hack shiat. I would rather spend 70-80 bucks and get a safari snorkel intake.

Like this. http://jamesoaksenterprises.com/products/arb_snorkels.htm

On a 2.9 or early 4.0 ohv, just cut the side of the airbox off, or, rip out the factory ram-air and you're golden. For a rig that sees LOTS of deep water, route an intake tube behind the glovebox - this will make the engine a little noisy in the cabin though.

I spent the coin for the real ARB Safari cap. It's a bit pricey for what it is, but it makes the snorkel look professional instead of ghetto rigged.

That is not always the case up Stave... There are random holes that try to swallow cars in what otherwise looks like 2' of water... Saw a buddy sink a grand cherokee half-way up the door in such a puddle... And he sucked water into his engine. Im just trying to do what I can to save my truck from being another victim of the lake monster...

I think youtube has a video of him being hauled out by a big-ass B2 in fact. lol

they sell "mushroom" vent caps that will work, but i did the cowl thing. on a 3.0L you just attach a fernco to an elbow inside the fender. easy as pie. thats right, i said pie!
