What to top a snorkel with???

90% of the 4x4ing in bc is hardcore bush whacking... we took a truck into the bush just across the line from alberta to bc, went with it 2, maybe 3 times, the first trip we took out the passenger side window on a branch that wound up on the bumper, the second time we went in, we lost the windshield due to a low hanging tree that dropped as we were going under it... the truck had no scratches on it when we went in, and after trip 3, you couldn't find a single spot that was more than about 2"x2" that DIDN'T have a very noticable scratch... i'll see if i can dig up some pics of that truck... it was an older ranger

the plow was used to push in vehicle traps that were dug about 60 years ago

(this just got caught in the mirror, it was not the one that took out the window)

the plow came unhooked from the winch that raised and lowered it, causing it to hit the ground and launch the front of the truck upwards then towards the cliff next to us

these pictures were all taken on the larger trails, the places where you could actually get out of the truck. The plow was also not on the truck while we were bush wacking

Now you keep saying how bad ass it is where you wheel that you can't have a full snorkel. What makes BC so much more heinouse than the rest of the world or even say up here in Alaska? Are you just a crap driver or waving a toughy flag. It cant be too rough of going with only a cowl intake cause your rig would be dead first run with us on the glacier runs. And there is the option of making it quick detatchable for when your in the styx and stonz. I dont get you condeming a full snorkel just because you dont wheel in water hazards mean enough to require it.

BC has some of the most diverse wheeling conditions of anywhere. The trails are so tight the majority of the time that you are A)getting body damage, B)cutting down trees, or C)sliding down a bank hoping the trees stop you. Nothing makes it more heinous than the rest of the world, he never said that. He said for BC it is more practical to have a cowl snorkel.

We'll leave the flag waving to you guys.

Ahhh yes, reminds me of sliding backwards down an Icy hill up at Postill Lake, in your neck of the woods...

I've seen it and have had friends and club members try exterior snorkels before. They do not last long before they have been ripped off and are laying on the ground.

I'm not saying its any worse, or any better than anywhere else so I really don't see the need for the attitude. I'm saying that in my home town where I wheel the trails are tight and treed in. They have been built from old horse trails mostly and have been opened up just enough to squeeze a truck the size of a ranger/b2/jeep through. There are no fullsize trucks in our club. They just don't work here for the trails we have.

And I especially don't appreciate being called a crap driver. I'm not some pedal to the floor redneck maniac. I'm a slow, methodical and precise driver who can squeeze my rig through things that seem physically impossible without beating the shit out of my rig.

The cowl snorkel works for my rig, for the terrain I wheel in. I'm not saying it is the be all end all. I've had the truck up to the windshield in a creek crossing before and have driven out of it.

I really don't care if you don't 'get me'. I know what works for me and was offering an option to the OP. Nothing saying you gotta go get all pissy about it.
