What to top a snorkel with???

where are you going that's going to need a snorkel? stave, where the water is deep enough, you will not be able to get to, it's much to sloppy you will get very stuck before you get that deep...

do an inner fender snorkel, and leave it uncapped...

my thread that i need to update...

http://therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100872

I hydro locked my truck with one of those, my snorkel is going to the roof

The major benefit I see with the fender snorkel is it keeps the crappy bottom feeding from sucking up puddle splash...

we had a bad storm here a while back and i hyro'd my motor too and i had the cowl snorkel mod.. i had water inside my gauges it got so deep. (RIP ranger) and this was on a paved road. so there are benefits to the roof snorkel.

So your shit got all F-ed up just by a crapload of rain and puddles???

Oh yeah? what did you do to trash your engine? Just too big of a puddle?

I was in a water hole about a foot or so deep doing about 10 mph and I was doing fine, but there was a drop off at the end that stopped my truck, meanwhile the water kept going and it rolled up to about 2 feet deep and went right into the snorkel, keep in mind I dont have any inner fender to cover the opening

I bet your cowl drains were plugged.

Damned leaves....

Leaves, pine needles, and those stupid little round tree seeds plugged mine. Some of the seeds even began to sprout! Haha!

Do a cowl snorkel like Sasquatch, but unclog your drains first. :icon_thumby:

I can run the garden hose into my cowl grille and the water runs out the inner fenders as fast as it goes in. It works for my needs. An external snorkel wouldn't last 5 minutes on a trail here where I wheel, it'd be smashed to bits and laying on the ground.

no water issues with the inner fender snorkel... it's SLIGHTLY lower than sasquach's though... i'm talking maybe 2" lower on the body... (not acounting for tire size, lift and body style changes)

Now you keep saying how bad ass it is where you wheel that you can't have a full snorkel. What makes BC so much more heinouse than the rest of the world or even say up here in Alaska? Are you just a crap driver or waving a toughy flag. It cant be too rough of going with only a cowl intake cause your rig would be dead first run with us on the glacier runs. And there is the option of making it quick detatchable for when your in the styx and stonz. I dont get you condeming a full snorkel just because you dont wheel in water hazards mean enough to require it.

I am in Maine and understand what he is talking about. I wheel my Navajo where I won't ride a fourwheeler. Overhanging trees, blowdowns, tight trails, you name it. All stuff that you can drive through, as long as nothing snaggable is hanging off the sides and roof of your rig. I've never believed in the things, since it's smarter to go from the cowl or from the passenger compartment.

about 75% of the Province of BC is covered in Temperate rainforest... Which means wheeling involves a LOT of low-hanging branches and shit, pretty much anywhere you go.

I can understand how a roof-top snorkel can be less than ideal, especially in a place as remote as say, Terrace.

In all honesty, Im borderline surprised he can find trails wide enough to fit his truck down...

Did you not see his avatar?

Even here in prime farmground it isn't unheard of to have a mangled airstack thanks to a tree... really almost kind of common.
