What tires you guys run on your Ranger?

I'm looking at the tires for my truck and would like to make a lift. Any recommendation?

The best truck tires I have ever had are Michelin Defender LTX M/S. Excellent traction, last a long time, wear evenly, not noisy on the highway.

I would help if we knew what you plan to do with the truck and which drivetrain you have. Is it going to be only on the street? Mild off road driving every so often? Or do you plan to do some more serious off road driving and where? Each tire type is a compromise and also within the tire type, each brand tends to specialize a bit.

Once we get that nailed down, we can talk tire size. A leveling kit will get you so far before you need to look at a lift. So, we need to know what your plans are and if you have a RWD or 4X4 truck in order to give you the best recommendations. Otherwise, we are just shooting in the dark based on our own biases and what we use our trucks for.

The best truck tires I've ever used I have to break into 2 categories, All Terrain and Off Road:
ALL TERRAIN
• Pirellii, All Terrain radial tires made for Sears, called Trailhandler APT. (@fastpakr , here you go) I put a low mile, used set of take-off tires on my Ranger; I've put approximately 110k miles on them, they still have one half the original tread but 2 of them, recently had their sidewalls crack so I pulled them off, out of prudence. I would buy more but they are no longer in production.
• To replace the Pirelli tires I have chosen Cooper Discoverer Road and Trail AT's (made by Goodyear)
OFF ROAD
• Mickey Thompson Baja Claw bi-ply for dirt and Mickey Thompson Baja Belted bi-ply for sand
NOTE, I have always wanted a set of Interco Super Swamper TSL bi-ply in 32 or 33 with a narrow tread, just couldn't get the tires I had on to wear out fast enough during a sale???

Wow, I'm not sure that I've ever even gotten half that out of a set of tires, of any type, and they weren't used when I got them. I don't think it's the tire's fault though. I do like to take the curves a little fast.

Me. Exactly. New tires on the truck seem to make it 2 years tops. The worst part is I don't even drive that fast. Trucks drifts at like 35mph on roads with a 55 speed limit.

drifting my ranger is not as much fun as drifting the bmws were do i don't do it. maybe if i can get it set up for autocross, that will for sure change, but its getting set up.

i have to lower it alot to meet the requirements to pass tech inspection for autocross and being an edge, its tough to lower it easily

I just got new tires last Saturday. This time Mastercraft Courser Trail A/T's, Mastercraft is Cooper's bargain basement brand but they're good enough. Tread is similar to Falken Wildpeaks.
I had Cooper AT3's before but they wore out in 35k just like everything else I've had. Also they never seemed to balance right. Truck is much smoother now.
265/70-17's, slightly bigger than stock. I have a 1.5" Truxxx level but they fit fine before I put it on.

I recall an uncle and his son talking about discovering the Cooper tires in the late 60s/ mid 70s somewhere, I think they were an independent brand then, maybe also foreign?
A guy I talked to at church also about that time or maybe later 70's, worked at a local tire maker factory, he said they'd run a particular tire and fill an order, then pull the (for example) Michelin plate from the mold, and without changing anything else put a Goodyear plate in and start running another batch

As far as I know, Cooper and Mastercraft are some of the few tires still made in the USA.
I usually get my tires from my bud's tire shop in my town. He can get anything you want but he's a Mastercraft dealer and that's primarily what he stocks. He says he'll put Mastercrafts up against anything. I prefer white letter tires but at this point it wasn't worth an extra $40 a tire to get something else. The Mastercrafts I got had the same 620 treadwear rating as the Coopers I had before.
