My credo
Credo?... what's that?
I've been reading about engine swaps. I have a 3.0l v6. I wanna get more power out of the engine but it seems like to much money because ther isn't much aftermarket for the 3.0l.

So I was thing of swapping either a 4.0l v6 from another ranger, an 4.0l inline 6 from a jeep cherokee, or a 5.0/302 from an explorer/mustang.

In your opinion what would be best. I think the 4.0 inline 6 would be best for DDing, towing an atv and moderate loads. I know that there's tons of aftermarket for those 4.0 inline 6's.

Any thoughts?

I had a long reply and lost it. The ford 4.0 is best bang for the buck.

Of coarse I would have to recomend the VW TDI.
Good power and great fuel economy. :)

4.0l v6 does sound like a good option. Its about sourcing one now lol that doesn't have to many miles.

Where are you located?

I have a nice strong 4.0 with a Comp Cams 422 in it....

I'm going to disagree that the 4.0 is the best bang for your buck. Since you have a 3.0, it shares nothing with any other engine used in a Ranger. You cant just bolt in a 4.0 and call it a day like the guys with 2.8s and 2.9s can. That means that any engine swap is going to require the same basic work of replacing the engine, trans, wiring harness, ECU, and exhaust. This means that the 5.0 swap and 4.0 swap are basically the same amount of work. Why go through all of that work for a 4.0 which doesn't offer a significant upgrade in power over your current 3.0, and has little or no aftermarket just like the 3.0?

A 5.0 swap is going to give you the largest increase in power in stock form and gives you the best base to add power too without really being any more work than any other swap into your truck. There's a huge aftermarket of relatively cheap parts, compared to the mostly custom stuff used on the v6s, and it's a pretty common swap that is very well documented.

yeah....what he said.

but, the inline 6 4.0 engine will be the most difficult. of these options if your having to actually ask this question.

thanks for the input. 5.0 are cheaper and eaiser to find. If all engine swaps require the same amount of work might as well go with the most amount of power. Fuel economy should better with the v8 if you don't have a lead foot?

Would the 5.0 v8 or the 4.0 v6 have better fuel economy. I'm not look for anything crazy because it is a truck and i will be using it. But just to know which one is better.

Fuel economy varies widely because there are so many variables that can affect it, the biggest of which is how you drive. I've read claims from some 5.0 guys that they see over 20mpg highway on a regular basis. Probably pretty similar for the 4.0. I doubt there's enough of a difference between the 5.0 and 4.0 to notice really.

So go with the v8 regardless? More power and about the same fuel economy as the 4.0.

Sorry I am asking so many questions. I just want to know and you guys have more information and are more knowledgeable than I am. Every opportunity i get i am on the net looking up information about my ranger and different mods and upgrades and conversions
