What size tires can I get away with running a Dana35 up front? Just the facts/hard numbers please. I will be pushing them with a tame 302. Are 35's the limit? period?

I know driving is a factor. This is my (still road legal) trail rig. Scale of 1-10 (1 being beginner/tame driving, 10 = every trip guarantees mega stuck+airborn truck+likely broken parts) I wheel at about a 7-8.

33's..... I am running 37's on my D35 but I wheel it like an old lady and waiting to break something

my first time out with 35s I broke a hub and ujoint. That was on some pretty tuff terrain.

35's are about as much as you want to put on it...you can get aftermarket parts to build up the outers and probably get away with 36's....

I have been running 35's on a d28 for 8 years and have never broke anything up front except one hub.....granted I only play in mud......there is no hills or rocks here.......

33's is what I run. I left the 35 open also. If I went bigger i'd start looking at a SAS.

a Dana 35 TTB can handle 35's no problem....it is when you get into the SLA ('98+) suspensions that anything over a 33 you should worry...

I've blown two hubs with 33's, but I drive her like I stole 'er:icon_thumby:
35's, max

and you are locked in the front....that will cause stress on parts by itself...

Yeah, but it's gotten me outta a lot of hairy situations!:icon_hornsup:

true...but there is always a negative....

the 35 im just putting into my truck ran 35" hawgs and tsl sx's for most of its wheeling life, im runnign tires that measure 35" and i should be just fine, but im leaving ti open and i wheel it like i stole it

i run 38in tsl sx swampers and never had a problem except ball joints wearing and wheel bearing i also drive full throttle or nothin with a 351W.

Thanks for the input guys, I thought 35's where the threshold, and that seems to be the wise thing to do. But IROKs start at 36...... :nopityA: axle parts

Build up the outers you say? Do you mean put the D44 knuckles on? That is a possibility. I think I would try and find a solid D44 before I did that thought...

With the Dana35 front axle?? seriously? well that gives me hope. I have the 'expensive' 'jeep' hubs for my D35, and am prepared to upgrade u-joints and stuff. If I could run 36-37's and get away with it that would be WICKED.

no just better than stock ball joints...
