My credo
If I can't do it...find someone to teach me
So I was scrubbing the carbon off the top of these pistons using power steering and a green scrub pad. I did two pistons before I realized I had scrubbed the groves off most of the piston. I also noticed it appears the top of the piston has come into contact with some debris at some point. My biggest question is how it would affect performance to put it back together without replacing the pistons? Any input would be appreciated.

i wouldnt worry about it

the dots form straight lines, they're supposed to be there. any other pistons have them? point to the front of the engine?
I would suspect you now have a bunch of abrasive debris around the top ring, and in it's groove.

You will be fine to run those pistons

Ummm...without the pistons, I'd guess the performance would be lacking due to lack of compression...just sayin.':p(sorry, I couldn't resist)

I figured that out after looking at the other pistons. Thanks

So I have since moved on from this problem and I have another question. There is a sensor in the oil pan that I have NO idea about. Please help

Oil Level sensor, ground activated, 1 wire, turns on "Check Oil" light on dash, but it is on a timer circuit so doesn't turn on light when cornering or stopping and starting off as oil in the pan sloshes around

Looks like a low oil level sensor. My mustang has one
