What is the hp chip bs???

Just that, BS. you could do the same thing with a 50 cent resistor from radio shack if you knew what circuit it is supposed to modify. still not a good Idea because all those things do is tamper with the signal from say the thermal sensor to put the computer in a rich condition. Run too long like that and you will need new plugs not to mention what it does to your emission controls or the fact that you will never pass an inspection with it hooked up.

As said, "BS".

I've done a test on those IAT mods. PCM read a nice 68*F IAT before mod. After mod, PCM read 100*F IAT. So what was my friend trying to gain, or better yet, lose a few horses.

it is the MAF bypass resistor.......it how you make a modern speed density system:icon_cheers:

This comes up about once a month  Ebay chips are a scam!

Do MAC units work on Standard transmissions?

Yes, MAC Products work on both Standard and Manual transmissions.

yea i know that they are bs and it is a resistor that you can buy at radio shack. I have read things about this b4 I was just wondering how it works. So its like changing the timing? well on a motor with a distributor...

jet performance, super chips, predator........ all make products that work but they are slightly more that $25.00. cost anywhere from $100 on up over $1000.

I don't know why anyone would think you can get much out of a gas motor by messing with the computer.

On a diesel you have this huge amount of extra air available because a diesel doesn't have to run stoichiometric--it means you don't have to have the perfect ratio of oxygen and fuel molecules present when you touch it off. A modern diesel pickup runs maybe 35psi of boost and needs about 15-20 to make it's maximum power. So you throw in a chip that tells the computer to fuel it up more and you can get huge gains because the air is already there.

The air isn't already there on your gas motor. You have to run it near stoichiometric--which means you do have to have the proper amount of oxygen and fuel molecules present when you touch it off. If you run it without enough fuel for the amount of air present it gets really hot and burns holes in the pistons. If you run it with too much fuel for the amount of air present it will soak the converter in unburned hydrocarbons and burn it up. Plus it doesn't make more power now that poor mixing and unever runners of wet intake manifolds are gone, and it smokes and leaves deposits.

So you have to have more air to maek more power and the chip isn't going to let in more air. All it can do is change shift points, mess with the timing curve--which may give you a little more pep if it doesn't lead to detonation. If your motor doesn't have a knock sensor it may harm the motor. But the power needs air and faking the computer into thinking there is air there when there isn't is stupid and futile.

Work on getting more air in there first.
