Ethanol is basically the same as Heet (water remover) that people dump in their gas tanks in winter to eliminate problems water can cause in the fuel system, especially in winter.
The ethanol bonds with the water and allows it to pass through the system without any of the bad effects water droplets could cause. It also prevents the lines and filters from freezing which can cause fuel starvation problems.
This may be why your truck preforms better in winter with ethanol. You could test this theory by using straight gas to which you add a couple bottles of Heet or other water eliminator product.![]()

Only way to get 93 in OK is if you buy 91 w/Ethanol. Ethanol boosts the octane rating about 2 points.
Some states are selling 85 w/ethanol added which brings it to the required 87 octane.
It really boils down to the marketing and maintenence on whether or not ethanol is good or bad.
