What do you guys think of the Dodge Ramcharger?

i've had 4 318 engines, including 77 powerwagon 4x4.all 2 barrel motors and i recall them being pretty good on gas,not overly powerfull but no all day patsy either.

never match the gas economy of your 2.3 ranger, but it was mopars economy v8 after the 273.still think you should consider it.have you driven it?

Well here was my logic behind the trade:

1. I can pick up a Ranger far more easier then I can pick up another 1977 Dodge Ramcharger in that condition.

2. I can have a lot more fun (is'nt that what life's about?) in the Ramcharger then in my 2wd Ranger.

I don't know. I'm confused now, but I know I love that Ramcharger.

one of lifes little curve balls.i know that confusion all too well, happens to me around gibson les pauls at guitar stores.good luck.

I do need the top for it, that's one of the thing's I really need if I trade. I don't know if I'll be able to find one by itself after I have the rig you know?

Would be pretty cool to see a fullsize on the trail huh guys? Hahaha!

i say go for it and get another ranger asap
sounds good if it runs and drives well

I would be all over it. I dig the whole ranger thing but thats a pretty sweet deal. You could always make your own soft top plus it would save on gas. Rangers are a dime a dozen but a Ram Charger like that is pretty rare. Do it and dont look back.

Didn't look at the pics, but I can tell you that the Ramcharger is a good truck. For starters, the 318 is a great motor, I've beaten the piss out of mine, and it just wouldn't die. My buddy still has it to this day, and it still starts up every time, even when sitting for a year or so. If it's a manual, it should be an NP435, which has a nasty granny low, some were as low as 7:1. It should also have a 203 transfercase, which is not the greatest transfercase, but they work. The biggest problem with them is chain hop when they get worn out. They were all fulltime 4wd, but some have been converted to locking hubs. Things to look out for would be the passenger seat mounts, since its a fold forward seat, the floorboards are kinda weak around the mounts, and if you land it hard on the front of the rocker on a stump or rock or something, the welds can braeak between the rocker and A pillar. Overall they're great trucks.

I agree completely!
Rangers are all over, How often do you see a Ramcharger that nice!!??
Every single one I've ever seen was all rusted out.

Gotta love that color too.

Remember the movie Lone Wolf McQuade? with Chuck Norris, remember his rig? Badass, but that was another time, what are you really gonna use it for, daily driver? Check insurance cost, and not to mention, shoulder belts, abs, and air bags...

yeah, there was another scene I was tryin ta find from the original movie, where he's out in the desert... anyway, thanks for lettin' jack yo' thread, now it's past my bedtime

Being a old truck insurance would be about nil, air bags and ABS were not even thought of, and shoulder belts were just catching on so they could go either way but I doubt it.

Personally if your truck is in good shape I would try to buy it outright rather than trade.

yeah, generally older vehicles are not much to insure, but being a 4x4, with removable top, and somewhat rare, it would behoove you to at least check the cost before purchasing the vehicle. And as far as ABS, and air bags, that was my point, the vehicle does not have them, and if one is using it as a DD, especially in So. Cal., personally that bothers me. And before people start talkin 'bout how older steel body vehicles are so much tougher, let me tell you about the mid '90's Mercury Grand Marquis I saw last week, that rearended a nearly new Honda CRV. the merc's frontend was pushed in about 2 1/2', and the Honda didn't even look like it had been touched. Phew, sorry for the novel I'm writin' here, but I also wanted to mention the guy that drives the Monster truck "GRAVEDIGGER!", anybody know his story? He was an Army Ranger, was helpin' somebody move, with an old '70's PU, that had lap belts. Accidently rolled the truck, and he ended up a parapalgeic.

Even the cab on a newer Ranger will crush down level with the body. In a rollover your life is in god's hands, because no matter what you are driving it is a crapshoot if you will make it out. All it takes is one well placed fencepost and...

Personally I think the truck is too neat for a dd anyway.
