What did YOU do today?

It warmed up a little so cleaned out the chicken house, sure doesn’t stay clean long when its cold & 15 birds stay in the building all the time. only takes 2 trips with the gator though, its a lot easier than the lawn deere & dump trailer. Didnt even put the tire chains on it, Doubt it leaves the garage until spring. Read about putting a pvc pipe over the bottom edge of the 3-point blade so you dont tear up a gravel driveway during snow removal. Might try that tomorrow, possible snow returning soon, be a good chance to try it out at my parents drive. (mine is asphalt) Already have some 3” & 4” pvc on hand, not much else to do this time of year.
I’m not sure how well PVC will hold up to that kind of treatment. I saw a thing years ago recommending a 2” or 2.5” steel pipe. I have a section of old gas/oil pipe that I was going to try it with for my truck plow and never got around to slitting it and making it work

I'll agree with the pvc not holding up very well. Ive seen many folks in northern Michigan use steel pipe welded on a worn down cutting edge.

Yesterday, went out and hit up a couple creek crossings. It starting to sound like the other side wheel bearing is going now... :annoyed:

Convinced the wife to let me order a new toy:

Looking forward to playing some Master Chief Collection in maxed 1080p during our Christmas shutdown. If anybody wants to play co-op sometime between the 20th and the 2nd PM me.

Decided to be a couch potato today, 30 degrees, windy & starting to snow out. Just gonna leave my 3-point snow blade as it is. Everything is gassed up, pantry is full. Wife is baking so I guess I will have plenty ti snack on if I ever decide to get up from my recliner. Have a blanket on my lap held down by a sleeping dog. ‘Tis the season- to hibernate!

It's 57 degrees and sunny. Get out there and do something productive.

It was 2 degrees when I got up at 5 am. Warmed up to 10 and holding. Been snowing since about 7:30...

Wife got me a locking metal cabinet and 8 new ammo boxes for Christmas. Been arranging the safe and filling ammo boxes and new cabinet. She gave me the OK to make a little man space in the spare bedroom.

I'll head out and shovel and clean cars off when it stops.

Finally found and temporarily fixed the coolant leak on my superduty. Installed a new thermostat housing seal. Seems to be working at the moment.

Found out this is a known chronic problem with the stamped steel type of t-stat housing. So, I have a machined billet aluminum housing ordered. I went through a lot of coolant on this issue.

Got an email yesterday for a free mug from Lowes (kinda neat, looks like one of their buckets with the handle on the side... I don't drink coffee but once I get a shop fridge it'll work nice for cocktails) and I needed to go there anyway so what the heck... actually went there twice, went to the re-store to try to find some trim for the shop office but didn't find anything I wanted so went back to Lowes, also picked up some garage door seals so I can try to keep stupid rodents out... oh and heat in but mostly rodents...

After that I got home and put some trim around the office door so I could start putting the trim at the floor, got that cut as well just need to paint now but that's a job for tomorrow, not in the painting mood... need to paint the door too...

Looked at my body mounts and tried to disassemble one. An upcoming major project is going to involve new cab mount bushings and 1" spacers. I had heard these things are a pain to disassemble. And, even without severe rust, they are a PITA. So, I invented a tool to pull them apart. Tech article / How-to coming soon.

Re-purposed/ modified an old bed mounting bolt.

Made a puller body.

Assembled, add a wrench to hold the bottom nut and ready to use next time I get a chance.

Tried out my puller today. It works great. A complete body mount could be replaced in 15-20 minutes. I didn't take a video yet and there is one more photo I forgot to take before the final tech article and video are born. But this puller is a real game-changer.

Went to Menard's with the Ex before snowmaggedon hit, she has a bit of a project (has learned first hand how starting projects can literally explode in your face with more things that you gotta fix...) Anyways, with her pocketbook about 300 dollars lighter and the Ranger loaded with flooring and wallboard materials, dropped that off at her house, helped with the drywall, taught her how to use a jigsaw, and scooted back home before the roads went to complete crap.

Tried again to get the F-250 to start and get it out of the yard. Acting like the starter is gone. Not saying that just because it isn't cranking over, just not hashing out everything I've tested or tried. It just isn't working. Tried the ole hammer tap this morning, it gave a weak attempt at trying to spin, but wouldn't do it. Might try the hammer tap again over the coming weeks, but if that don't work, it'll just have to sit there until my BIL has time to come out and work on it.

After that, lots of cleaning up and throwing stuff away. Preparing to pull up flooring to inspect the extent of water damage from water heater leaking. Looks like a lot is going to survive just by getting the linoleum pulled and letting it dry good. A few places will need to be repaired. Potentially found some more that I wasn't expecting. First thing is to finish cutting out the flooring ald let it air out for a while. Probably hit up the bargin store again tomorrow or monday to pick up some more of those little 2x4 carpet scraps. $199, easy to move around, and much nicer to walk around on that the bare plywood. Also going to retrieve my dehumidifier from mom's house and see if that might help speed up pulling moisture out of the floor.

Went to get new tires on the F-150 at Sams. They had the best price I could find and free install. Ordered new tire sensors when I ordered the tires last weekend.

Drop the truck off and they can only find three sensors, my last sensor died this week. :annoyed:

Ok, I drove an hour to get up here, do what you can do and we will circle back and catch the last sensor later.

"we can't replace your tires, your lugnuts are swelled too much to get a socket on" :icon_confused:

Seriously, you can't replace the nuts too?

"Nope, we can't remove your wheels until you replace the lugnuts."

Not saying they are perfect but I did have one off over the summer, you can get a socket on them.

Serious stupid easy upsell, no idea why they don't do that. And the tire senor thing is stupid too. We got a kickback for mopar parts when I was at Chrysler... but you have a customer setting a grand + on the counter you send a guy to a parts store and get a friggen sensor and do it right the first time.

It's Sam's Club. Did ya really expect any better? LOL

This and tire shops typically over tightening lug nuts is why I have my own tire machine. I didn’t really want to get into doing tires, but I got really tired of headaches. Now if there’s a problem it’s on me.
