I just wanted some help in deciding what parts I should get for my bronco 2, I'd like to base it off of the GT swapped one in the builds section, but he doesn't give any other parts than a 8.8 rear, I'd like to know what suspension I should use with it, I know this is kind of an idiotic question, but I am quite new to this. Planning to swap in a 350 chevy (I know its sacrilege but its what i have on hand) and I'd like to have a manual transmission. Thanks for you're input!

Link to the one you are taking about? Lots of places that people put builds at around here, and I'm not going to guess at it.

Ah...

Not sure you're going to find much of a recepie for that. I'm sure those are pictures of a real lowered BII, but if it is something belonging to a forum member or something found online is something that @Jim Oaks is probably the only one that can answer.

That page is a what if, not necessarily based on any actual vehiclein existance. Lowering a 2wd BII is going to be much the same as lowering a 2wd Ranger, except that the components won't take it quite as low due to different axle pivot brackets. All BIIs used the 4wd axle pivot brackets, and can;t be swapped to 2wd Ranger brackets due to frame differences IIRC.

The most Mustang GT like front suspension option would be the AJE K-member swap, but I don;t know that it will work due to previously mentioned frame differences. Best and most practical option for lowering the front of a BII is going to be DJM Dream beams. Going with dream beams you get two choices, either stick with the 83-85 style and stock brakes, or swap to the 89-97 style beams and have more options. The swap and available upgrades are outlined in the TRS tech library.

In the rear the 8.8" axle is the obvious choice. Most Ranger 8.8s bolt in the same (spring config, lines, cables, etc) and are going to be close enough to the same width that it would be an easy swap. Explorer 8.8 is 31 spline and available with limited, 96-01 also had disc brakes, trade off is that it is wider and installed ontop of the springs instead of under. On top of springs could be good for lowering and disc could be good for the theme. Not sure about the width and going spring under on a BII.

If it were me trying to do this build I'd consider the following:
  • SBF or modern Ecoboost (had to say it)
  • 89-97 dream beams
  • 95-97 Ranger steering knuckles
  • Try to locate conversion kit for Sport Trac or Mustang brakes, they're still out there if you search.
  • Axle flip w/Explorer 8.8, then lift as needed
  • Biggest anti-sway bars you can find for 89-97 Rangers (some BIIs came with a 1" rear bar)
That's really all I can say. You're taking the road less traveled doing it with a BII, so might run into issues that people doing Rangers don't have.
