What did YOU do today?

I cut the grass yesterday, even though my back is still messed up. Good thing I did too. It wasn't supposed to rain but it did in the evening. I also paid bills. Companies don't like it when you don't pay them.

Today, not much of anything other a follow up Chiropractor visit and ordering wheel bearings for the clown car. Once that is done, hopefully I can put that hateful thing behind me until fall oil changes and winterization needs to get done.

ordered a bunch of axle & diff seals, plus some rear brake stuff from RA.

Dynamic Friction has a rear hardware kit with more parts than most. 37054028
I ordered 4 kits which means I won't be able to find them for the next 3 jobs.

I had thought about trying to mow my property yesterday but it started raining before I could do much of anything outside. Not a whole lot got done yesterday except in the evening sitting with a buddy on the patio grilling food and having a smoke and watching it rain around us.

Not sure why companies get so excited about you paying the bills, I can always tell when my cell provider is running short on money though because those months I get the notice for next months bill about a week after I pay. Otherwise the notice doesn’t come until after the middle of the month.

You really don’t like that car at all, do you? :icon_rofl:

Well, today my TRS t-shirt came so now with the hoodie I’ll be official for the fall trail ride and fit in better, lol

No. I grew to dislike it before it started having major issues. Nothing is easy to work on. Even the oil filter is a PITA and it's right frigging there where you can see it and get at it. Nothing but a strap wrench can get around it to remove it even when the filter was just put on hand tight. Then the transmission took a dump. I found out about the Nissan CVT lawsuit and the extended warranty as a result of the lawsuit and how horrible their CVT is. I told her she needed to unload the thing while the transmission is still good. She refused. Then other things started breaking. But I don't want to go into a rant.... Oh wait... I guess I did...

Tonight I got a little wrenching done on the 5L for the Explorer while sweating profusely... Started off by slathering the new cam with assembly lube and putting it in it's new home, then lubing up the stock lifters and dropping them in, then sprayed the stock plastic guides with WD40 and brushed with a soft stainless brush, didn't want to risk brake clean doing anything to the plastic, sprayed with compressed air really good afterwards... Similar treatment to the "spider", installed all those and the cam retainer (need to tighten those two bolts though). Last was to flip the block over and put in the top side crank bearings.

Task for tomorrow is to clean the crankshaft some and set that in, torque the crank caps, maybe put the new timing set on, clean the pistons and see if I can get them in place with new rings... Sometime over the weekend I'll see if I can get the heads cleaned up, some light porting done, clean some more, assemble then install... If I can get the long block mostly together maybe I can get it dropped in this weekend or early in the week...

I might be picking up a 95 5.0 mustang gt, 5 spd. Shhhhhh don't tell my wife. This is the real reason I've been thinking about selling a couple things.(ya honey I know I didn't need it but I sold 2!!!)

Got a little further on the 5.0L, took some scotch brite and WD40 to the crank journals then hosed off with brake clean and compressed air, spread assembly lube on the main journals and installed the crank... Then got to the pistons, the top rings were compressed a fair amount, second ring ok, oil rings were carboned the heck up... all lands were carboned up pretty good but no mushrooming like the turbo 2.3L pistons I did a few years ago (wish it wasn't so dang expensive for those pistons...). Took a couple hours and did the first round of cleaning on all the pistons, will take a fresh look at them tomorrow and go over them again then get them dropped in... After that hopefully get the oil pan cleaned up and installed, then get to the heads...

One axle seal on my F250 failed and ruined the brakes, so I replaced it, the brake shoes, and both seized parking brake cables. The axle is full floating so the seal was pretty easy. I fought with the nasty greasy brakes yesterday and the other side this morning. I believe the world became a better place when they started phasing drum brakes out.

Next I have to figure out what is seized on the parking brake for the Ram. The cables seem to move fine. Apparently the axle needs to come out to get to the linkage because it’s all behind the axle flange. Yay.

About to get a nice fat sandwich and take the dog to go look at a Ranger 🙂

It's too hot for dogs. Livvy might get to go to my favorite brew pub tonight. It will be her first time. But they allow dogs and I want to see how she does. And I want beer and wings.

If we were out in the sun....

We are in a building.....hotter then hell still....but no radiation beat down....which is unusual and very nice. So maybe he is just enjoying it 😄.....lazy bastards ..both of us
