What did YOU do today?

Went to my parents to visit, mom has a new subaru crosstrek, dad got a used ranger so he can haul small “dirty” stuff like the live tree at christmas and not get needles and such all over the inside of his grand cherokee. His 2013 F250 has been a real problem and certainly a bit of a gas hog. The new to him ranger is a 2000 2wd reg cab stepside with a cap. 2.5/auto/4.10’s medium blue, 85K miles. He got it for $6,000. Has black cragar soft 8’s on it, 225/70/15 tires. Towed something heavy at one time and bent the bumper brackets down a little. A/C but no cruise, dont recall if it was manual or power windows. Pretty clean overall.

I miss the dream cruise... a little.

I use to go every year. I was typically way north of the D. Up on the north end... you can actually cruise until you hit the loop around Pontiac.

today I was around 11 mile. had the wiffie along so only stayed for a couple hours.
way back when about '98 or '00 I did the cruise in a manual Taurus SHO, the underpass by the zoo was brutal.
these days the 2 outer lanes intended for the cruisers are clogged with normal cars.
despite that it's still a great showing of everything imaginable.

Was a busy 14 hour day at work but I got some play time in 6 am this morning i got called to recover this tibi upside down in a ditch, than i needed to reorganize the impound yard and take some stuff to our wrecking yard tha truck cab was in my way and i didnt want to start the flatbed lol

After a week of not doing much due to heat and vacation so far tonight I've cleaned the lifter bores in the 5.0L, got one of the bore brush kits from Harbor Freight, decided to just use the brass brush with brake clean first then stuck a cotton rag around that and soaked it in WD40 and they're nice and clean now, then wiped the freshly honed cylinder walls with the WD40 rag (it's cheap and better than just the brake clean and compressed air I rinsed it with...).

About to try to locate the standard thread repair kit I have in the garage so I can fix the one motor mount bolt hole... might do something crazy and grab one of the like 3 fire extinguishers from the garage since I realized like last week that I don't have one in the shop for some reason...

I snapped this at the U-Pull yard today while hunting down some parts for a friend. The yard workers use two trucks which they revived from their own scrap. One is a Ranger. The other is an F150, both in quiet testimony to the competence and durability of Ford.

Ok, apparently I was dumb a week ago, scoured through the obvious places in the garage where I would put the thread repair kit I bought like 5 years ago then rechecked the thread repair kits I had in the shop... I was blind... under my nose :) Motor mount threads are now fixed! While in there I grabbed all my die grinder bits though in case I get to do some deburring on the heads...

While I was there I took a 7/16" tap and chased the other 3 motor mount holes then the 20 head bolt holes so they're nice and clean, once I get to cleaning the heads I'll treat the accessory mount bolt holes to the same treatment.

Then I moved to my new to me drill press, it had a mud dauber nest on the idler pulley/belt, took the air nozzle to the motor vents to clear some of the wasp nest junk out... after that plugged it in and it fired right up! It's an IMS 16 speed drill press with a 3/4hp motor, it's smooth as butter, the idler pulley arm pivot thing needs some work/oil along with the rest of it but I'll get there... it's a rusty mess and missing the lift crank but I'll tinker with it, gotta find a chuck key too... not upset for $50 though... quill seems solid and straight.

The one yard around here got an F-150 with the 300 straight 6 that had one bad cylinder. They pulled the injector wire off the bad cylinder and used it on the road as a parts delivery truck for a few years until the body got too bad then they used it as a yard truck until the frame went, they said it was one of the best trucks they ever used for that and it still ran when it got scrapped…

I've been a member for a year now and have just begun to know people and understand how things work. I must say that those who staff this site are first rate, hard working, and very helpful. Oh, and you're one of them!

It’s nice to be appreciated, but it’s really the members that make this site what it is, not just the staff. I’ve been here since somewhere around 2002. I volunteered to be a mod a few years back to kind of help pay back some for how helpful this place has been over the years.

Very nice little truck and well worth the price.

I installed new headlight housings on my '08 Corolla. Been having an issue with the DRL's, the DS has not been working. Found out I have a short in the connection at the headlight , so it looks like a JY run is my near future. I also removed some the restrictive tubing for the air intake. that car has earned the name La Cuca Rocha, it just will not die.
