What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Heck, the other day I saw a 4x2 extended cab STX that was stock height, had plain letter Ford on the tailgate not an oval so I think '93... had the whole STX sticker package... unless someone ordered the stickers and put them on

Being in Chicago the last few days I don't think I've seen any vehicles over 10 years old so nothing Ranger related...

That… is a negative. Popular misconception is that the STX was always a “hi-rider” and had things like vent windows…

I own a 92 STX. No vent windows, no privacy glass, no rear slider, no extended cab pop-out windows, no factory lift… and none of that listed as a deletion on the window sticker.

I do know I've seen more early STX models with the wing windows than without. Both online and in real life. Makes one wonder how many normal Rangers were sold as STX models without being ordered that way. A lot of that kind of tomfoolery went on over the years to upsell buyers..

I just found out I can get an all chrome grill for the 97 for $100 on eBay. First, I have to figure out what’s wrong with the fuel system, and I’m not moving fast in the cold weather. My arm and hand are much better, but they cramp up the second I go out in the cold.

I repaired the tail pipe hanger on the 87. It was a fairly heavy duty perforated metal with the tire-rubber spacer between the hanger and the pipe. It broke where it was folded, a fatigue failure. It was pretty heavy duty, so I took off the piece from the frame, flattened it, and then bent it in a different place, put it back up, and then just ran a bolt through the piece on the tailpipe and the piece hanging down. It took 15 minutes, good for another 300,000 miles.

I also wiggled the connector on the F250 washer pump and it started working. I’ll grab one next time I am at the pulls-part.

Maybe that's what's wrong with mine. It works most if the time. So I forget to troubleshoot it.

STX was kind of a wildcard. My 92, the interior of the cab was all XLT goodies, power everything, tilt wheel, carpet, cloth bucket seats with a center console, cruise, AC, power locks, etc. The rest of the truck was total XL basic basic package except for alloy 15” rims. Painted bumpers, red paint, no tinted windows or vent anything. Nothing about it made sense until I found the window sticker tucked in the owners manual that was conveniently in the glove box when I got my hands on the truck.

It’s a common failure point from my understanding. I played with the one on my F-150 trying to get it to work again and no success. I’m not entirely sure why once it decided to break contact, nothing I did to the plug seemed to change it. It might work for a couple minutes but then nothing. I ordered a new plug awhile back but never found the time to install it…
