What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Oil & filter change. First time I've ever put 5,000 miles on the Ranger in just 2 months.

Ordered replacement filter for what I used, new oil filter and air filter for the snooperduty, which is due for oil change and new air filter, a case of brake clean and a few gallons of Rotella. Expensive day already. Grocery store later.

i have a 12k generator i bought 5 or 6 years ago in case we get hit with a bad hurricane and power goes down for a long period. it is multifuel but i have only ever run it on propane so the carb stays clean.

if it ever gets used in an emergency, it will most likely get run on gas and then i will have to worry about the carb later on.

i want to try and mess with a small gen to run on wood gas. that looks cool though it would probably be useless after a rainy hurricane since all the wood would be soaked

I've been kinda curious about that as well. Not enough to try it. Just curious non the less. Plus, the only small generator I would be willing to try it on is a two stroke. So, that kinda kills that idea.

Just took a long look at my Ranger then piled a lot of parts in the box - Now I gotta wait for our replacement short block to show up. Had to stay with the SBC combo solely for cost reasons but would give anything for a 390/427/428 FE to stuff in there.

I think you got all the use you’re going to get out of that block.

Got a flush in, going to run it on distilled, drain, distilled, drain. Probably just the twice. When it's empty on the last one I'll put on some JB Weld, though it looks like the Bar Seal has stemmed the flow for now.

Found a 2.5l manual with 150k miles (2000). $4K. I may go get it next weekend.

Did some more work on my replacement cab, today was reconstruct the driver side core support mount. Didn't realize until today how much is going on in that little space, makes a lot more sense why they rot there... 3 layers of metal all piled up. Also managed to mash my hand when I was drilling the hole for the mount with a step drill as well (last operation before calling today's project done, haha). Still have all 10 fingers though so it was a win for today.

Since I hav new to me truck seats that replaced the 60/40 setup I may put an 8" subwoofer tube tween the seats for an armrest so the whole neighborhood can enjoy some old Megadeth and Metallica cd's with me
This'll go over abt as well as firing up a mcycle with no exhaust with the wife but I'll enjoy it

I finally got all the radios hitting the repeaters like they should. The DMR was a bit of a challenge but I got figured out.

Well… not the best day and not the worst.

Decided I needed a sort of moral boost so I decided to tackle some stuff on the Choptop. The oxygen sensor surprisingly didn’t look too bad even though it’s probably at least 5 years, if not 10 or more years old. It’s been running really rich and since the only time I remember changing it was when I did the 4.0 swap to begin with which was more than 10 years ago (dang I’m getting old). So, I figured for what it costs and the fact that it’s really not easy to check if the o2 sensor is doing its thing on the old system, might as well.

Anyway, put a wrench on it and out it came. I was fully expecting to have to use the torch. Maybe it’s not as old as I thought it was but whatever. Then I swapped the computer for the reman 4.0 manual transmission that I just got. Out of curiosity I popped the cover on the old computer and sure enough, all three capacitors popped and a couple resistors. That explains a lot. Took it for a little jaunt up to a buddy’s place and back tonight and man… oh it runs soooo good and no CEL. I have to re-learn how to drive this thing now that it’s acting how it should. For those about to tell me I should have fixed the old computer, no, it was for an auto transmission because it was all I could get at the time. Not that worried about it, I have what I need, it will make a nice core though.
