What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Put some new rubbers on.

Sitting here watching snow do a dog pile on it. Have a battery tender hooked up to it, as I have no intention of going anywhere until next Saturday at the earliest. That will be the day it gets above freezing for the first time since Monday the 8th. Here in Oklahoma City, we've never had a stretch of below freezing for this long. It's a new record as well.

I've been trying to put together a plan for a roof rack/canoe carrier for the cap of my truck. The price locally for materials is crazy and not having a bender had me looking on Amazon for something. I found two identical... what I assume are returned roof baskets (scuffs/scratches and damaged original packaging) in the Amazon Warehouse really cheap. After my $50 Christmas gift card and a few Amazon Prime points... I'm about $20 out of pocket for the two. I plan to cut the two up to make one the length I want and hopefully use the ends of one to make roof rack cross bars to mount the canoe. I guess when they get here. By the end of the week the temps will be in the 20's and with my little garage heater I'll see what I can make out of them.

Unless the cap came reinforced for carrying a load, I wouldn't do it unless you plan on building a cage on the inside of the cap to support the weight or design a rack the holds the weight separate from the cap. The cap fiber glass will crack without reinforcement. I tried to go that route with the original cap I had on my 2011. The only way to find out for sure is to call the cap manufacturer and give them the serial number. Chances will be high that it isn't reinforced.

Yesterday I took the '97 down the road to pickup the concrete saw from the concrete guy so I can do the saw cuts, weather has been stupid with freezing rain and such since Friday morning (lost power around midnight Friday, got it back at around 9pm last night) so I had to detour on the way there, took a different route on the way home, there was a tree across the road so I turned around but dropped a tire in the ditch... that drug the other rear in with it... called the wife to grab the '00 Explorer to give me a tug... If I was further than 2 miles from the house it might have been a bigger deal :)

Today I took my generator over to my moms since she's still out of power.

It says on the LEER website... if factory installed with Thule roof rack it has a max capacity of 220 lbs with pretty much every cap they make. But my model is addressed in the list... 100XQ.

I'm gonna take my chances with my 50lb guide canoe... or my EZ up tent frame or an 8ft fiberglass ladder. It will probably void any warranty that may be left... so be it... it's time to drill a few holes and use it sensibly.

Mine says the same thing if you get the factory rack with the cap. I ordered my Jason cap with a rack specifically for the same reason. As much as those d@mn things cost, last thing I want to do is crack it because I put a load on it.

Gave it a bath since it was starting to identify as white between the salt and the lime plant. Its now its funky maroon/purple color again.

Changed oil. Found a coolant leak. Yay me!

No puddles but a few drops gathered on the crossmember and not leaking while running. Looks like the lower part of the WP gasket. The WP housing is dry but I see some on the the bottom of the assembly on the lower bolts. Area around and below the weep hole is bone dry and no noise. Now need to decide on whether to change the WP and gasket or just the gasket. This one has about 55k on it.

Cleaned the frozen hay and about 1,000 rounds of 300 blackout cases out of the bed from my trip to Georgia 3 months ago.

Are 300 blackout cases re-useable? I don't own anything in that caliber but the market for used crap is higher than the price for scrap brass in most cases. I know some cases are not reusable though.

Puddles?

Drove it to work today, roads were fine at 5am but the drive home was more challenging. The truck handled it all just fine. Could be worse tomorrow, I plan on getting up at 3 to fire up the allis and clear some of the snow away, blowing too much now to accomplish anything. I had a path from the front porch to the mailbox, its all filled in and snow is level with the middle step. I guess thursday a even bigger snowfall is expected. Even though I dont have the best heater in the truck it felt good to have it out on the road again.

Should be reloadable, yeah. So don't pitch them, prices are stupid on basically anything to do with guns or ammo or reloading.

shoveled the snow around it and grabbed the keys to go play in hte snow. Dead as a Door Nail. I have seen more life in Jeffrey Epstein as he swung from his rope. put the battery on the trickle charger for a couple hours. at least the lights come on and the door chime works now... not enough power to start it thought. took the battery to autozone, they said it is good, but only has 10 percent charge. They said they can quick charge it in a few hours. I figure I would leave it there overnight and pick it up in the morning. the sides were a bit bulgy to me, and I really don't want to burn down my house from an exploding battery, so we will see. Damn battery is only 2 years old too...

In my experience over the past decade or so... that's about what you get out of new batteries.

I just replaced the original battery in the my wife's 2016 escape. The cold snap we're having made options at the local parts stores limited and really expensive. So I ended up with one from Walmart for $99. Two year warranty... I will be revisiting this one Feb 2023 I'm pretty sure.

I just knocked on wood... but I believe I replaced My Ranger battery Feb 2019...

Autozone could not get it to hold a charge. New battery warrantied to me. yay! lets see if this one goes past 2 years now...

Alternator is alternating, don't notice anything that is on such as dome lights or what not, and even then, it has a 10 minute timer and turns any dome light off if the engine is not running or key is in the "on" position.
