What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

I've said it for years... Tree's are d*cks.

Took driveshaft to get shortened, picked up starter n some rad. Hoses

Oh I know it's nothing. But people here either drive 15 over the speed limit on the stuff, or 3 miles an hour. They also tend to forget that bridges ice over a LOT more easily than the roads.

Roads don't have much on them as the ground is too warm. But I'm not leaving the house till the air is over freezing for a few hours. And even then, no guarantee in the low spots.
In recent years we've had a bunch of all wheel drives wrecked by people who never had AWD or 4x4 before. They don't realize that 4x4 means they can go, it doesn't mean they can steer or stop. You have to drive like there's a brimming full drink in your cup holder and you don't want to spill it.

Or put it between your legs, burn your machinery, and sue for a million and get a new car!

I was trying to say you need to drive smoothly in snow and avoid creating G forces in any direction.

Well my wishes were granted and the PNW got our first and probably only snow storm of the year, took the ranger to Capitol Forest. Good logging roads, bot much for trails, but was nice to go play a bit.

Also ended up pulling a compass, aka fiat 500 with big tires lol ;) out of a ditch, poor kid didnt know what he was doing, i guess we all learn or not. Street tires just arnt ment to be driven off road on snow and ice.

When I met my wife she used to brag that her Edge got around so great in snow she had never had to put it in 4wd.

I tried to explain it isn't like that... eventually asked her to show me how to engage the 4wd and that kinda ended it.

She thought there would at least be a light that would come or or something when it was in AWD... which I agree with.

For Ranger news my new hubcap came in for my spare. It is supposed to be freaking cold and I can't get to the spare so it will be awhile before I get to see how it looks. :(

That is one of the hardest things to get people to understand. AWD or 4X4 doesn't make you invincible. Especially since most aren't true AWD or 4X4 drivetrains. And marginal tires for the conditions are still marginal tires for the conditions. AWD or 4X4 are only going to help so much with that.

A couple of pages late, but my 4.0 SOHC shifts at 5500 rpm at WOT.

In preparation for the 8” of snowfall headed my way this monday Ive got the ranger ready to go, checked tire pressure, added some weight to the back, charged up my jump box and put a 5 gallon can of gas in the back. The HHR sure isnt up to anything past 4” of snow and after tossing it in a field a year ago I will happily put it up and get the truck out, hate putting it through the salt bath but it will always get me where I need to go.

Hauled frozen shit to the burn pile. Might need more than one match to light it.....

GF's place looks like a WWI re-enactment. About 6 hours of chain sawing between myself and a friend, and there's still more stuff on the house roof which has too much slope and ice to get to. Don't see how anyone gets anything done without owning a truck....

I've been trying to put together a plan for a roof rack/canoe carrier for the cap of my truck. The price locally for materials is crazy and not having a bender had me looking on Amazon for something. I found two identical... what I assume are returned roof baskets (scuffs/scratches and damaged original packaging) in the Amazon Warehouse really cheap. After my $50 Christmas gift card and a few Amazon Prime points... I'm about $20 out of pocket for the two. I plan to cut the two up to make one the length I want and hopefully use the ends of one to make roof rack cross bars to mount the canoe. I guess when they get here. By the end of the week the temps will be in the 20's and with my little garage heater I'll see what I can make out of them.

Used the old girl to get around town on Saturday over a foot of snow on the ground, had to use 4low to get into my sister inlaws neighborhood, gave her a ride to and from work. Still getting some more snow today. Its supposed to turn to rsin latter today though glad i shoveled the roof yesterday.
