what coils to run?

going to be starting my sas soon, my axle is a narrowed 79 fullsize d44, my question is about coils, i know a 6'' 78-79 fullsize coil will give you about 9'' of lift, but i only want about 5'' of lift...do i have to use fullsize ford components or can i use something else??

I used 6.5 inch XJ lift coils on my D30 swap and got 5 inches.

weight of the front end of your vehicle is the main focus. find that and then you can pick and choose what rate coils you want to achieve the ride height you are looking for as well as the amount of flex you want

how would i find out the weight of the front of the vehicle? also if i use coils for a different vehicle what do i do about the coil retaining plate that bolts to the radius arm?? do i fabricate or ????

I am running 6.5 in. deaver coils for a 79 f150 over my dana 44. the rate is 300lbs. Even with the front end 4 linked those coils are too stiff for a vehicle as light as my ranger. Unfortunately thats the softest spring i can get in that ride height. no one makes springs to lift rangers that high with a solid axle. so u have to borrow coils from a different vehicle, most use the 70's series ford coil. but almost any donor vehicle u encounter has 2000 lbs. on the ranger. long story short, im having custom springs made at my desired ride height but with the rate of 140 lbs. if u want to be able to flex ur ranger out to the max then u might have to do something similar. if u have tons of cash coilovers are the way to go. if massive flex isnt the primary goal then finding sas coil springs should be relatively easy. this is just my perspective from years of trial and error. good luck dude
