Were these stock?

I have never, ever seen one of these on any ranger. LMC lists it with factory replacement stuff. I know in the 70s ford put these (but a different style) on the F series.

They look to LTD-ish for a truck. Even the Fseries ones looked somewhat truckish.

Agreed. My grandfather had a highly optioned late 80s Crown Vic that had one just like that.

Dad’s 81 Chevy half ton had one.

That is a why I could kinda see ford having one too... but i have never seen one.

Really they serve no purpose anyways. Except to crack heads that used to jack them for resale

There is no purpose. It's all a matter of personal taste. Most ornamental things are "Cool" for the person who has them and "stupid" to others.

I wouldn't have one normally. But when I inherited the bulldog from Dad, I didn't want to just set it on a shelf in the shop like he did where almost nobody would see it. I like it so it's on my hood.

Assuming you mean a mack bulldog? Those look cool on anything.

I like hood ornaments when they are on the front of some long hooded late 70s boat (like my LTD II), even the GM trucks pulled them off, but on a 1st gen? Nah.

As a little kid I asked dad what the point of the one was on his Chevy, he said it helped gauge where the passenger side (that would be the right side ) tires were back when we had narrow curbed highways.

The rib on my first gen hood is pretty effective at the same thing, but it is more substantial than a GM's hood rib too.

I mean....usually i would think the front passenger (right ) corner/fender would be a better indication...

Nowadays everythings got rumble strips though, makes texting and driving a breeze.

i dont think that the hood ornament on a truck would tell you where your tires were on the road lol. Thats like those wipers with the red tab that suppposedly tell you where you were on the road. if you need something to tell you where you are on the road then you dont need to be driving. just my thoughts.

If you look the corner is usually off in nowhere land. From the drivers perspective the center of the hood is closer to where the tires are.
