Parked the ranger today in hopefully to fix the 2.8 an afue other problems an run it untill the wheels fall off. looking forward to rebuilding my first engine, I am mainly focused on the carb,valve cover gaskets,netrual safety an the starter then I am going to fix the front end an get things right... I dont wanna get rid of my first truck so i am going to make it better.

yep..........take care of that old iron.......
 
you have a pull-a-part near you, just go buy a new 2.8.....v6's are cheap there
 
I rebuilt my 4.0 for under 500. Its not to hard. Pull the engine and take your time pulling everything apart clean everything paint your block get a master gasket set relapse your valves get all new seals get a clutch/pressure plated kit and mabey even buy a new carb If yours is acting up. Also be sure to buy lots of oven cleaner that stuff is the best thing to clean parts with. I sprayed everything wiht it and it melts grease off of parts I highly recomend you use it on your engine and your engine bay.

A gasket set and a coat of paint isn't a rebuilt engine.
