Wendys...

There is a pizza restaurant in the Allentown rest stop on the northeast extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
The sign said “New York’s Favorite Pizza”.

Honestly sets a pretty low standard for New York Pizza. Frankly, it speaks pretty poorly of NY pizza if most NewYorkers prefer to drive to a gas station in Allentown.

I've had actual New York pizza, in New York city, once. I wasn't impressed. Wasn't bad, but wasn't all that they brag it up to be either. I'd have been just as happy with a pizza from most of the nationally recognized chains (but not Little Cardboard's Caesar's).

Full disclaimer: Before I was diagnosed as diabetic my favorite pizza was a Papa John's Meet Lovers, so I may not be considered the best judge of good pizza. (Little Caesar's is still crap though.) These days if I want pizza, I make a crude immitation using a low carb taco shell. Good enough to beat the craving, less carbs than actual pizza crust, better taste than cauliflower crust, and I don't have a large pizza tempting me to eat the whole thing.

(Can you tell that I really don't like Little Caesar's yet?)

again, blasphemy ! ! !

next time you go up anywhere near New York, let me know, and I’ll tell you where you can go get some good pizza. And, they sell it by the slice! (But you’re still by by one or two pies after you tasted)

I will concede there might be one or two places in the New York area that don’t have good pizza. Hard luck, falling into one of those when you were up there.

Maybe "New York" is the name of the owners cat or something?

when i went to new york on a tdy trip a bunch of years ago, we ate hot dogs in central park and went to ground zero (it still looked blown up back then) and we visited the little tiny church that survived the destruction. i never even thought of pizza.

on the same trip, we went to Philadelphia and had philly cheese steaks in that famous diner that you see in the pictures and videos. those were awesome.

IF any of you are EVER in Tallhassee and want some good Pizza, you gotta try "Decent Pizza". By the slice or a whole pie, it's the pest Pizza in town.
We also have a BBQ place called "4Rivers". Its North Carolina Style BBQ, they even sale Cheerwine. iykyk

ha ha ha, cheerwine. my wife thought that was some kind of alcoholic drink the first time she came with me to north carolina

As long as we are bragging about our local cuisine, I am gonna throw out Beau Jo's Pizza in Colorado... They sell mountain pie's - literally a pie, it has a lower and upper crust, and is thick thick crust (Sorry Josh, probably off your diet I know)... At my age, that is an instant carb coma for 2 hours afterwards... They have a challenge, the 14er but that isn't why you go. The crust is fantastic to eat all by itself.

The only 2 locations that are fantastic: the original - Idaho Springs CO (on I70 west of Denver 80% of the way towards the mountains and ski resorts), and the first chain - Ft Collins CO (on College near....the college - CSU).

They've been on 'Travel Channel', 'Diners, Drive Ins and Dives', 'UA Eats', and a bunch of other news/youtube... and here's the ultimate in my book, when the owner got old enough he wanted to retire he sold the chain to the employees instead of letting go to Pig Out Foods/Coke/Pepsi any other global mega super chain and get ruined by corporate prioritizing shareholder over quality.

15 second blurb - self promotion, decent picture of a plain ole pepperoni

40 second blurb on the 14er challenge:

I've been to Chicago on business and had some of their local pizza and while not bad, I prefer Beau Jo's hands down... Haven't been to NYC yet.

Like I said, I never met a pizza I didn't like.....

I've actually gotten to where I can't stand a lot of pizza... my gut doesn't take the unprocessed or underprocessed tomato sauce, gives me heartburn.... getting old. I never was fond of the college row choices (blackjack and the other really really cheap almost no-name), but could always eat the major chains - Dominoes, the Hut, Johns and later when they started up Murphy's. Now at my age, Murphy and Beau Jos are about the only 2 that don't cause me midnight hate.

Reminds me of another memory from when I was in college. Domino’s Pizza was fairly new at that point, and they had these little Ford Currier pickup trucks to deliver the pizzas, a bunch of them. It was so cold, they had propane warming ovens sitting in the back.

Well, one of the most popular evening sports was to push the truck into the ditch or out into the woods or such when the poor guy was delivering his pizzas. I don’t want to say it happened often, but those little flimsy trucks all had D rings on the front and on the back, and they all carried about a 20 foot or 30 foot chain for pulling each other out of the ditches and out of the woods. Later, they got more sophisticated, and they had this old giant big four-wheel-drive van that also had a winch on it.

Oh the memories! All that for cardboard crust, ketchup, and newspaper confetti cheese. Always tasted great after splitting a quarter keg of Gennie Beer for $8.25. I don’t remember what the pizzas cost.

dude, that pizza in colorado sounds awesome
