Want to replace my 6X8 speakers - input needed

I have 2-10" Alpine Type S Subs in an MTX Thunderform box that supply all the bass that I could ever want.

I was looking at your box, nice set up! Any reason in particular that you know of why this wouldn't fit in the back of a 96? MTX say 98 and up.

I would suggest the Pioneer TS-D6802R

Well, these are what I wound up buying. I ordered them this morning. I could have got the Kenwoods cheaper (67 bucks a pair). But I'm going to do these because I've never had a Pioneer product I didn't love. Never owned anything Kenwood though, but my friend had a Kenwood deck that was a POS. These Pioneers go down to 30hz and the Kenwoods only go to 80hz. BTW, I found them for 74 a pair.

I'll report back when I install them. I'm excited!

They are in, along with quick-roofing the doors and adding acoustical stuffing (made by MTX) in the rear. The speakers look very impressive. The crossover stuff is in a bad spot for the rear speakers. I had to modify the hole back there with tin snips and my hammer to make them fit. Which begs the question of WTH was Ford thinking making such a retarded shape in the body? Do they think people are going to be satisfied with the stock junk forever? Anyway, the jury is still out on how much I like the new TS-D6802R's. Some songs sound fantastic, some sound so-so (might be the recording). Since Ford can't make consistent color coding of their wires, so it's obvious which speaker wire is negative, the guessing of which speaker wire went where was left to my ear. I think front and back might be out of phase. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be putting some tweeters in the door.

Also, I can't for the life of me figure out what Pioneer's built in EQ works. I need to get my book out.

EDIT: I was just in the tech library and found this. Does anyone know if these are the colors AT the speaker as well as the dash?

Yeah, Ford is one of the better ones to install into. It just pissed me off I had to cut to put them in. And yeah, that's what I'm wondering on the wiring. I decided to order the plug things so I know for sure.

And yes that is some MAJOR bullshit in your pic! I would have been pissed.

Check out the memphis stuff. Esp the power reference series. Its the best bang for your buck over anything in its price range. Ive got a PR 10" sub in a ported box with a 400 watt amp and it pounds!!! I'm upgrading my speakers to 6x8 memphis PR. Ive heard them in many other vehicles and they are by far the most clear and crisp speakers.

The missing piece to the stereo was finally installed. What a huge difference these made. I had these in my Explorer and I took them out before I sold it. Believe it or not these were some I bought at Radio Shack about 10 years ago, I believe the brand is Optimus.

And here is a pic of one of my 4 Pioneer TS-D6802R 6X8's. Great Bass and Mids, but they leave something to be desired in the highs for my taste.
