Picked up a non egr 4.0 to replace my dead egr equipped 4.0 in my 98.

Since mine was a egr equipped engine, do I need to flash the chip? I have a SCT X2 tuner to change it if needed

Gonna either need to install the missing EGR bits or have it tuned out. I've never messed with an SCT so I don't know how easy/possible it is with one of those. It may be possible to just plug a non EGR ecm in it?

deleting emissions crap is a federal matter though so..

You’re not going to find a tuner to tune it out. EPA put the brakes on that a few years back.

You are not going to find a non-EGR ECM for that. Only the early 4.0 had no EGR, not sure what year it changed but I’m pretty sure all OBD2 computer trucks are EGR. I’m also told that at some point they went to a different head design. I know that 90-92 were non-EGR and before OBD2. I have two of those vintage.

98+ also saw a fuel system change, from a “low” pressure EFI system with a return line to a “high” pressure “returnless” system.

EGR, when working, helps lower cylinder temps to keep from pre-ignition under load. So it’s really not harmful.

I'd just swap the EGR stuff over...
