vss(speed sensor) mod to help shift auto trans?

i have a 1928 ford model A pickup ive swapped 99 ranger 2.5 drive train into motor,auto trans,computer driveshaft,rear exct... got it running and driving last week and it acts like it doesnt want to shift into second gear. so i play with my o/d on and off button and pickup speed and it finally shifts into second and the rest of the gears but now my o/d light flashes but the truck drives perfect with no shift problems until i cut it off and it goes thru the cycle again. im assuming its the speed sensor that controls the shift points in the trans. my question is IF it is the vss is there any mods i can do to make the trans shift like it suppose to with throwing o/d lights and flooring it to get it to shift? resistor maybe?

Did you happen to install the GEM from the donor?

In your donor, the raw VSS signal from the rear axle (LG/BK and RD/PK wires, )is "conditioned" by the GEM, which ouputs a speed signal (GY/BK wire, GEM Pin 1) to the Instrument cluster (speedo) Cruise servo and PCM (in Pin 58).

Without that speed signal into the PCM, it has no way of knowing when to apply ground to the shift solenoids!
